Ash K Holm knows a thing or two about creating next-level makeup. Her incredible artistry has earnt her a star-studded client roster that includes The Kardashians, Ariana Grande, Megan Fox, Shay Mitchell, Madelyn Cline… the list continues.

Take a look at some of the most iconic glam moments of the last five years, and Ash's work comes up time and again – from Ari's first Met Gala red carpet, to Megan Fox's sheer dress and bronzy skin moment at the VMAs.

So, when Ash decided to team up with Spectrum on Sculpt, her own pro range of makeup brushes, no-one could match our excitement… except for maybe for Kris Jenner who took to Ash's own Instagram to stan the range.

“I am here with Ashley Holm my makeup artist, who is launching her new brand called Sculpt, which is genius. And it's a line of makeup brushes, they're fabulous," Kris told followers before adding, "you need a good tool… go get it!”

“There's 30 brushes in the set, they're the softest fibres and they're made of anti-bacterial fibres too, which has never been done before,” Ash explained. The set costs £195, but some of the hero brushes, like the Fineline brush, Sculpt brush, Blend brush and Universal brush are available individually from £16-£26.

We caught up with Ash to talk makeup mistakes, memorable moments and the importance of the right tool for the job.

How would you describe your makeup style in three words?

Soft, snatched and sculpted.

Where do you find inspo for the beauty looks you create?

I  get a lot of my inspiration from ‘90s supermodel looks. I also have a lot of love for ’60s makeup trends. I tend to merge the two eras at times and put my own modern spin on it.

How would you say your makeup style has evolved since you started?

I’m constantly changing my techniques and making tweaks to the products I use every year. It’s the only way to grow and stay on top. I think it’s important to be adaptable and also a forever changing chameleon.

How important are the tools for the job?

I’m an artist so my tools are everything to me. I honestly don’t think I could do my job without the right tools. With the right tools you can make inexpensive makeup products perform like a million bucks. I think we forget sometimes how important our tools are but it’s honestly how I create daily works of art. From the way the fibres feel on your skin to the way its shaped all makes a difference. The softer the brush the more seamless the makeup blends.

What were your non-negotiables when creating your brushes?

I knew they had to have extremely soft fibres in order to put my name on it. I wanted to make sure the fibres barely shed and I wanted the whole aesthetic of the brush to look and feel luxe and chic. My brand really embodies a clean, professional, super luxe vibe so I knew we needed to mirror that.

What sets the Sculpt Brushes apart from the any other brand is the fibres. This is the first time ever we are seeing an anti-bacterial fibre being used. Rest assured that by using Sculpt brushes you are actually taking better care of your skin. In the 30 piece set you’ll also find a brush for every feature of the face and many detailing brushes to help you get out of your comfort zone and go for it.

Is there one mistake you often see people make with makeup application?

I think over doing it with sponges, which also absorb a ton of product. I love using my brushes first then pushing the product in with a sponge if needed. This prevents wasting product.

What’s your favourite makeup look you’ve ever created and why?

Right now I’m still loving the makeup look I created for Megan Fox at the VMA’s. She was wearing a sheer see-through dress. Wet hair and ethereal bronzed glowy makeup to compliment the overall vibe of the look. It was such a viral moment for the glam team that definitely went down in VMA history.

How do you make your clients feel beautiful and create those special moments?

Just being real and authentically you goes a long way in this industry. My goal is always to make everyone I work with look like the best version of themselves. It also helps to gain trust from your clients. The more trust and foundation we have together allows me to just create and do my job. It takes time to earn that but when you do that’s when the magic happens in the makeup looks.

How did you get into makeup and how did you get your big break?

I always knew I needed to be in this industry but never had a clue how I’d end up here doing some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Little Ash would be so proud! I started exploring with makeup in elementary school and continued to express my art through makeup. I was extremely insecure as a kid so I gravitated towards makeup as I got older. I ended up graduating high school early and actually dropped out of college to pursue the beauty industry. I went to Paul Mitchell cosmetology school to learn hair because there weren’t any makeup school in Houston Texas at the time. I knew I would barely get to do makeup in hair school but to me it was a step closer to my goal. I got hired at MAC and grew with the company for five years before I left to pursue my freelance career. I would say moving to Los Angeles was one of the best decisions I made for my career. Through word of mouth I started working with Khloe Kardashian in 2016 and later Kim Kardashian and Ariana Grande in 2018. I had the opportunity of doing Ariana for the Met Gala in 2018 and getting to do the Met is almost like an Olympic gold metal in the beauty industry. That was a big moment for me that I’ll never forget and I’ll forever be grateful for that.
