The royals helped broker deals at BGC Partners' trading floor in Docklands, with Harry telling the other traders: "He's on the phone, and it's all baby chat."

William was also joking around, telling the person on the end of the phone: "It's all a wind-up, I'm Gary". The appearance came the day before Prince William confirmed that he's leaving the RAF to concentrate on his royal duties.

When the trade had been completed William remarked: "Bloody hell, was that a billion?!" In fact it was a £21bn trade, a world record for a foreign exchange.

Several other celebrities took to the lines in aid of those who lost their lives in the September 11 attack in New York.
