Utility boots: How to wear this season's most badass footwear
Sometimes, albeit rarely, a fashion trend comes along that is as comfortable as it is cool.
Step forward this season's most badass footwear choice - utility boots. Forget emaciated stiletto heels, Prada, Louis Vuitton and Alexander Wang's favoured boots were chunky, tough-looking and rugged.
Utility/combat boots were originally designed to offer a mix of grip, ankle support and weather protection for soldiers, but then became a favourite with punk, goth and grunge kids. They're a symbol of subversiveness, and great for juxtaposing vintage tea dresses or slips - a trick Courtney Love pioneered in the 90s.
This season, wear chunky heeled versions with tailored, cropped trousers and oversized jumpers a la Louis Vuitton. Or go down the Prada route and wear with a ladylike tea dress and a pair of Argyle tights. Bella Hadid and Hailey Baldwin team theirs with mini skirts and attitude. It's all about the styling contrasts - if you wear them with anything too masculine you will look as if you're dressed for armed combat, which might be a bit much for most people's weekend look.
