31 excellent Halloween costume ideas for couples

Halloween is on the horizon like a party-shaped bat and it's time to start planning those all-important Halloween costumes (this is absolutely the best bit, right?).
Don't leave it until the last minute – you know that always ends in a panicked shopping spree, poor decisions and a rubbish result. It'll leave you wishing you'd given your costume more thought when others have gone to Heidi-Klum-like levels of effort.
Worry not, we're here to help – and if you've got a pal to dress up with, so much the better. If you're going to a Halloween fancy-dress party, there's plenty of amazing celebrity Halloween costume ideas and Halloween make-up ideas too.
But of course it's always more fun going to a party as a duo, so whether you are going with your other half or are pairing up with a friend for moral support (let's face it, a fancy-dress wingwoman is always a good thing) we've found the best and most original costume ideas...
NetflixArchie & Veronica from Riverdale
If you love Riverdale, you could totally be up for being Archie and Veronica for the night. Think about it; for Archie you would just need some red hair dye (or a wig), some contour on the abs and a Varsity jacket. Maybe a guitar for a prop. You would need a black wig, a pair of pearls, heavily defined brows and perhaps a sassy cheerleader outfit.

PruPaul from Bake Off
Ok, hands up, we are LOVING Prue Leith on The Great British Bake Off – she's a brilliant addition to the show, and a superb replacement for Mez Bez. And if you can find some piercingly blue contact lenses, Paul is a brilliant sidekick. Just carry a baguette and you're done.
Rex FeaturesPennywise and his balloon
Sorry coulrophobics, but this clown is going to be everywhere at Halloween. So hey, you may as well make it funny. You could always come as Pennywise and Georgie – with or without that ripped-off arm – but that's too terrifying. So make sure that one of you makes a balloon outfit. Well. As long as your party has good wide doors.
HBOTormund Giantsbane and Brienne of Tarth
Be still my beating giant heart! This should definitely be on every tall girl's Halloween wishlist (especially if you manage to get your mate/other half to wear a load of wildly dyed candyfloss as a beard.) GOD WE JUST LOVE TORMUND! Absolute favourite character in the latest series of Game of Thrones , hands down.

Wonder Woman (and the Amazons)
Pick one, pick two, pick an army! Nothing says "massive bad ass" like these costumes (and the hair styles are also amazing) and if you've got mates who want to come along too, you can just make an army – now, who's going to bagsy being Gal Gadot...
Lucasfilm 2015C3PO and R2D2
Honestly, nothing is more joyous than looking at extremely low-fi R2 and 3PO costumes from Star Wars on Instagram. You don't need to go the whole shiny metallic hog – just whack on something a similar colour, get some makeup going, spray paint some old loo rolls and whack them round your elbows – joy.

Sebastian and Mia from La La Land
It only came out at the start of the year, and I already have to google these guys' names – La La Land was all about the visual impact, and pulling out a shirt and tie and a yellow dress has got to be one of the easiest couples' costumes of 2017. Bonus points if you make a scale model of the Griffith Observatory.
Rex FeaturesBaby and Debora
Baby Driver officially had the best soundtrack of the summer of 2017, and handily, one of the most iconic looks. Just chuck on a pair of Apple earphones, some dark glasses and a hoodie, and you've got Baby nailed, while a big fat high bun and a diner outfit will give you a pretty convincing Debora (who, bless her, was so underwritten it's easy to forget she was there at all).
Getty ImagesTrump and Melania
This hideous man will be everywhere this Halloween – Trump and Putin, Trump and Sean Spicer, Trump and a big gap where his former White House staff used to be until they got fired – and Melania looks set to hold on to last year's crown as one of the most popular-yet-awful costumes. Maybe the high heels she wore to visit the floor victims in her helicopter. Maybe that's the one.
DisneyBeauty and The Beast
If you're the sort of person for whom Halloween means the chance to pay a mega visit to Angels on Shaftesbury Avenue, you need to channel the costumes from Beauty and the Beast . For one, you'll probably be able to hire the actual costumes; and if not, there will be a whole bunch of incredibly convincing replicas (and assorted wigs). Get thee hence, and show thyselves off.
Warner Bros.Diana and Steve from Wonder Woman
Yep, had to google Chris Pine's character's name as well, because as much as we adored Wonder Woman (and cried at the end), Steve Trevor is one of the MOST BORING NAMES IN THE WORLD. But luckily, both of them have absolutely scorching outfits, so this is a total winner for Halloween. Bonus points if you bring your own horse, or make your own plane.
Rex FeaturesFinn and Rey
John Boyega and Daisy Ridley's characters from the new Star Wars series are ultimate badass BFF goals – and both have got really great outfits, so you'll both looks amazing.
Rex FeaturesSandy and Danny
Grease's Sandra Dee is the original good girl gone bad. Be the one everyone wants with a tight curly blow dry, black leggings and red killer heels. Danny needs to get his hair slicked back, black t-shirt and spray on jeans and of course some white socks.

Morticia and Gomez
Morticia and Gomez from The Addams family are the perfect pairing if you want to bring a spooky element to your costume. The matriarch of the family oozes glamour so make sure to slap on bright red lipstick matched with red nails. But remember to banish fake tan; Morticia likes to keep it pale. You could even paint your face white to achieve her ghostly complexion, and finish with a swish of black eyeliner. A long, tight black dress is her staple outfit and if you don't have dark hair then most fancy dress shops will have wigs. For Gomez, a black pinstripe suit and bow tie is all you need. His hair is always gelled in place and of course you need a thick black moustache. Gomez was never without a cigar so one of those is the perfect accessory. Don't forget the pair liked to whisper sweet nothings to each other too so practice saying "mon cher" and "cara mia!" to each other.

Woody and Jessie
Woody and Jessie are an easy option for Disney couples fancy dress. Cowboy hats are essential for both as well as cowboy boots. For Jessie, you need to plait your hair into pigtails. She also wears a white blouse and denim skirt. For Woody, he needs a yellow checked shirt, jeans and a waistcoat. Of course you both need toy guns and you will be ready to yee-haw and giddy up with your partner.

Aladdin and Jasmine
Aladdin and Princess Jasmine are serious relationship goals and it's a hot couple's costume too but will take a bit of work to pull off. For Princess Jasmine, there's plenty of options on eBay but the key thing is a blue crop top and harem pants. Hair needs to be pulled into a ponytail and sectioned with hair ties. You could tie a piece of blue ribbon around your head. Gold jewellery completes the look. For Aladdin, your man needs to bare all going topless with just a purple waistcoat. Cream harem pants and sandals are a must. He also needs to get hold of a red fez and, of course, a lamp. Magic carpet is optional but appreciated.
Rex FeaturesBonnie and Clyde
We're quite specific about this one. When getting into character as the notorious 1930s bank robbers, adopt the look of Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway in the 1967 film. Dunaway with her blonde bob, artfully placed beret, cropped knit and neckerchief makes criminality incredibly chic.

Sully and Boo
Awesome friendship goals!. Boo is an easy costume to pull together. She wears her hair in high pigtails and her outfit is just a long pink t-shirt with purple leggings and white trainers. Simple! Sully isn't quite as easy but plenty of high street stores do Monsters Inc onesies or alternatively you could check out eBay to recreate the furry monster. Of course if you want to be creative (slash lazy) just paint purple splodges onto a blue shirt. Then practice your fiercest scare.

Jessica Jones and Luke Cage
The two best characters from Netflix's Defenders first appeared together in the even more fantastic Jessica Jones) – if you want hot couple chic but can't be arsed to dress up much, and a warm coat is of high importance to your party enjoyment, this is the costume for you.
iStockThe viral Irish family video
Truth time: this will date faster than a velvet choker, but if you go as one viral video this Halloween, then dress up as Derry and the bat. Or Maureen and the door! And if none of this makes the slightest bit of sense then watch the video and WEEP with joy.
Getty ImagesTheresa May and Arlene Foster
Shudder. It's an embarrassment having women in political power when they're these two: Arlene Foster, the leader of Ireland's DUP (Democratic Unionist Party), which propped up Theresa May's Tories after the disastrous snap election she called to cement her leadership, which saw Labour claw back seats. Still, lovely chance for some super wig work.
Getty ImagesSid Vicious and Nancy Spungen
The Sex Pistols' frontman and his girlfriend are quite a fitting choice for a Halloween party considering they came to a truly horrific demise. Sid stabbed Nancy to death, and later died of a heroin overdose. The pair are punk royalty so feel free to adopt a crown with your safety pins and leathers.
GettyJoe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe
If you're keen to channel 50s bombshell Marilyn then there's only one date to take with you: Joe DiMaggio. Marilyn's former husband was a baseball player with the New York Yankees, so we're thinking full baseball player kit (eBay it) combined with the white-dress-and-blonde-wig Marilyn outfit. Winning.
Rex FeaturesClarence Worley and Alabama Whitman
Clarence's Hawaiian shirt and Elvis shades are pretty distinctive, and as for Alabama, think cowboy boots, a lacy bra, lots of leopard print and that all-important blonde bob with the Farrah-Fawcett flick. We'd advocate dressing like True Romance's trailer-trash sweethearts every day if it wasn't for the likelihood of disapproving looks at work.
GettyCourtney Love and Kurt Cobain
The golden couple of 90s rock, Kurt and Courtney were the epitome of grunge culture. Think breton top or plaid shirt for the former Nirvana frontman, and a black slip dress, ripped fishnets and leather jacket for the Hole singer. You'll need black Doc Martins – oh, and don't wash your hair beforehand…maybe for, like, a week.
Rex FeaturesVincent Vega and Mia Wallace
This is a surefire hit for your party and more so your dance floor. It's pretty straightforward to knock up – you just need a couple of black wigs and pretty much what you'd wear to work. Work on those twists though.
Rex FeaturesHolly Golightly and Paul Varjack
Enjoy Breakfast At Tiffany's as style icon Holly Golightly with a long black dress, gloves and a tiara. And don't forget the pearls. For your man to portray Paul Varjack, he just needs a suit. Simple. Alternatively, just take a boatload of croissants and dress in eau de nil.
Getty ImagesKim Kardashian and Kanye West
Kimye are one of the most famous couples in the world so emulating them should be easy. Kanye likes ripped jeans and oversized hoodies and jackets and talk about being 'the greatest rapper in the world' and for Kim Kardashian you need some amazing contouring and a tight Balmain inspired dress. Don't forget to take a LOT of selfies.
Getty ImagesThe Duke and Duchess of Cambridge
Give your Halloween outfit the royal seal of approval by transforming into Kate and William. For Kate, you need a slick blow dry, minimal make-up and a blue wrap dress. Buy a fake version of her epic sapphire engagement ring on eBay to complete the look. For William, a suit is all that is required although you could add a crown to make the outfit suitably regal – and throw in some dolls and a pregnancy bump if you want to bring it snap up to date.
Getty ImagesJohn Lennon and Yoko Ono
Strike up your best version of 'Imagine' to transform yourself into John and Yoko Ono. Yoko was famous for her loose-fitting white dresses and oversized hats. For John, round glasses are essential with a long brown wig. Staging your own "bed-in" is optional, but very handy if you decide you can't actually be arsed to go out.

Barbie and Ken
Barbie and Ken have been together for 43 years. They actually split in 2003 (so sad!) but they still make an awesome couple for Halloween. Barbie has a wardrobe that is the envy of most girls so you can really adapt any outfit to be like hers. She's a big fan of pink so try and make that the main colour of your costume. Barbie is famous for her 80s style - she likes acid wash jeans and a-line dresses. Don't forget she loves big hair too. And remember Barbie's perfectly shaped arched feet, so high heels are a must. Ken tends to have his hair swept to the side and is always sporting an impressive tan. He has quite a flamboyant dress sense but is almost always in a suit.
