So it's no surprise that searches for Meghan Markle have soared in the week since she announced her engagement to Prince Harry. Some are calling it The Meghan Effect, and the stats are quite something...
Search intelligence site Hitwise have reported that last week, one in every 227 searches online (ACROSS THE ENTIRE UK) was for “Meghan Markle” on the day the news of her engagement broke (Monday 27th).
Can we just take a moment for that insane fact?
Adding to that, searches for Prince Harry’s fiancé (those people who didn't quite know her name) were up over 2700 per cent.
But it doesn't stop there: naturally, anything Meghan now wears will be lusted after.
People who search for Meghan Markle in the US before visiting the website of Hunter Boots had grown by 6199 per cent, Roland Mouret had grown by 780 per cent and Jo Malone’s site had grown by 50 per cent.
Lets not forget when Meghan put Canadian Label The Line on the radar in a big, big way. After she stepped out in white coat by the small brand to publicly announce her engagement with Prince Harry, the company's website crashed.
The $750 coat reportedly sold out "within minutes".
Co-founder and president, John Muscat, told WWD: “We’re not a huge company and it’s the end of the season so we don’t stock a lot of these coats - They are all handmade.”
Later, searches for the luxury Strathberry bag which Meghan used during her first official engagement increased 2044 per cent, with stock reportedly selling out in eleven minutes.
