1. Farrah Fawcett

PA Photos2. Jennifer Aniston
The definitive hair icon of the ‘90s, Jennifer is still proud owner to the most infamous and influential hairstyle of all...1994: The Rachel. Named after her much-loved character in Friends, the bouncy, angled and layered shag was created by LA hairstylist (and close friend) Chris McMillan. No ‘do has been so copied the world over since The Farrah (Farrah Fawcett, Charlie’s Angels) in the ‘70s.
2001 – Today: The Sleek (pictured). Poker straight, glossy and parted off-centre, Jennifer’s gorgeous mane is simple, classic and still one of the most coveted in Celebville. However, it’s not easy maintaining The Sleek and, according to reports, Jennifer recently spent a whopping £40,000 on keeping her follicles fabulous for one week! During a promo tour, Jen allegedly insisted her hairstylist Chris McMillan travel with her, and paid him £1,500 a day to tease those famous tresses.

PA Photos3. Victoria Beckham
No other celebrity can count their column inches by their hair ‘do.
2006: The Pob (pictured) . After a lengthy spell of tired WAG extensions, Victoria rocked the hair world when she stepped out with the now infamous Pob – and everyone and their sister copied it.
2008: The Pop. Or Prop, depending on your preference. Victoria certainly wasn’t the first to sport a gamine, elfin-style crop, but she was the one who brought it to the mainstream.

PA Photos4. Agyness Deyn
You couldn’t swing a stiletto in 2008 without hitting 20 Aggy wannabes. Her nouveau-punk, rebellious style and down-to-Earth appeal gave her an edge over the sea of textbook, perfect creatures you usually see in the magazines or on the catwalks.
2008: The Aggy(pictured). Her head turning, peroxide, shaggy crop has been described as the defining style of the decade. It was created by Sam McKnight, New York hairstylist-to-the-stars, for a Mario Testino shoot in ’06, and has since been copied by the likes of Selma Blair, Pixie Geldof and Sarah Harding, to name but a few.
PA Photos5. Sienna Miller
It’s hard to believe that Sienna has only been on our radar since ‘04, when she stepped out with the then über-desirable Jude Law. With her hippie chic locks and whimsical, free-spirited wardrobe - a new style star was born! Miss Miller pioneered ‘boho’, and soon we were all growing our hair and teaming floor length, tiered skirts with ethnic-inspired flip flops.2004: The Boho(pictured). Sharp, stylised bobs and geometric cuts suddenly didn’t look so good with our vest, hippie skirts, woven sandals and vintage belts! Enter the Boho; Sienna’s lengthy, full, slightly waved, unfussy ‘do that inspired a nation to grow and braid!
2006: The Edie. When Sienna took on the role of ‘60s ‘It’ girl Edie Sedgwick in Factory Girl, her super-cute, blonde, pixie crop had a sea of boho-enthusiasts reaching for the scissors.

PA Photos6. Kate Moss
The world’s most famous supermodel and style icon – Kate brought rock locks to a whole new generation.
2005: The Rock Chic(pictured). Bed-hair has never been so desirable. Kate’s tousled tresses sparked a rock hair revival and James Brown, the model’s hairstylist and close pal, believes the secret to Kate’s style success is that she doesn’t try too hard.

PA Photos7. Sarah Jessica Parker
Celebdom was in serious need of a curl icon. Enter Carrie Bradshaw… SJP may have been partial to straightening her locks occasionally for the odd red carpet, but she’ll always be a curly girlie to us.
1998: The Carrie(pictured). A little show by the Name of Sex And The Cityairs for the first time ever and fashionistas the world over rejoiced in the idol that was Carrie Bradshaw, with her whimsical wardrobe and wild curly hair. Finally, after a post-80s decade of shame, curls were cool again.
2002: The Curly Bob. By the end of season 4, Carrie was in need of a new ‘do to go with her new job at VOGUE – the curly, graduated bob became one of the most coveted cuts for naturally kinky gals everywhere and we still love it today.

PA Photos8. Alexa Chung
With too-cool-for-school locks, an enviable wardrobe and the obligatory indie rock-star boyfriend, it’s no wonder Alexa makes our modern hair icons shortlist.
2008: The Alexa (pictured). With darker roots and lighter ends (or “frosted tips”, as she describes them), Alexa made the move from just another T4 presenter to ‘It’ girl when she swapped her lengthy waves for this shaggy, textured, almost-grungy, long bob with mish-mash colour job.
PA Photos9. Cheryl Cole
Everyone’s favourite current style squeeze and girl crush, Cheryl Cole is one WAG with bags of style, not just bags of shopping!
2008: The Va-Va-Voom (pictured). Nobody does volume like Cheryl. Her body-beautiful lengths have made WAG extensions cool (no mean feat, not even Posh could accomplish that!) and has everybody reaching the clip-ins to get that kind of voluminous finish.
PA Photos10. Natalie Imbruglia
Nobody expected much from Natalie when she left Neighbours in ‘94, but three years later the gorgeous Aussie released Torn and suddenly every teenage girl in Blighty wanted to look like her – and after almost two decades of giving good hair, she’s well worthy of Hair Icon status.1997: The ‘Torn’. Lengthy bangs, boyish, choppy and side-parted; circa ’97, there was no 15-year-old in Britain that didn’t want Natalie’s super-cute cut – whether they could pull it off or not.
2006: The Natalie (pictured). After a spell with boho, Natalie rocked the hairstyle columns when she stepped out with this stunning bob. The short nape with rounded volume and soft waves was set off beautifully with caramel-hued highlights. Cue a thousand copycats.
PA Photos11. Geri Halliwell
Geri strutting her funky stuff in that union Jack dress - one of the most iconic images of the ‘90s? Without question. And we’re pretty sure Geri was single-handedly responsible for increased sales in red hair dye circa 1996…
1996: The Ginger Spice. Today, it just looks plain wrong, but in the Spice’s heyday every schoolgirl in the country was rocking red hair with chunky blonde strips.
2001: The Geri(pictured). Once Geri has washed the Ginger right out of her hair, she had the world gaping when she stepped out at the 2001 Brits Awards to present then-beau Robbie Williams with his Best Male award, flaunting her new shock bod and this poker-straight, super-cute and super-sharp bob in golden blonde. Suddenly, for the first time in five years we were urging salons ‘Geri me!’ again.
PA Photos12. Winona Ryder
Not since Hepburn has a face been so suited to the elfin crop. Winona’s quirky style and delicate features made her the ’90s pin-up girl for the thinking man and artsy crowd, and even caught Johnny Depp’s eye – for that alone, she deserves a parade.1997: The Audrey(pictured). Both cute and elegant, Winona’s delicate, elfin features, flawlessly pale complexion and Bambi-esque eyes really come alive when teamed with this gorgeously glossy, gamine crop.
PA Photos13. Daisy Lowe
Model of the moment, rock offspring Daisy knows a thing or two about how to make ‘rock chic’ sexy. Her racy outfits, black-etched eyes and enviable English Rose complexion have made her a style section favourite.
2006 – today: The Lowe Fringe(pictured). Doing for fringes in the ‘00s what Marianne Faithfull did in the ‘60s, Daisy’s rocking peek-a-boo bangs and tousled lengths are nothing short of rock-tastic.
PA Photos14. Gwen Stefani
Gwen – the quintessential ska-rock icon of the ‘90s’? No doubt.
1995 – today: The Platinum Blonde(pictured). With her super-cool, über-platinum locks, it’s hard to imagine Gwen as a brunette, eh? There’s not been a more iconic blonde who wasn’t a natural blonde since Monroe!
PA Photos15. Amy Winehouse
Ok, so she’s not the most glamorous of icons, but once upon a time, little Miss Winehouse was a pretty cool customer – pioneering Rockabilly in Celebdom and bringing beehives back!
2006: The Beehive(pictured). Amy first stepped out with her mega-hive at London’s We Love Soho event in ’06 and the paps went crazy for this teeny gal with the big voice and even bigger ‘do. When teamed with ‘50s chic dresses, that infamous ‘devil horn’ eyeliner and an undeniably cool collection of tats, there’s no denying the finish was wow-inducing.
PA Photos16. The Appleton Sisters
Hands up who DIDN’T want to be an Appleton in 1998? Anybody? Like the anti-Spice Girls, girl band All Saints burst onto the pop scene in ’97 with über-hit Never Ever and it was OK, cool even, to like them! It wasn’t long before we were all getting highlights and teaming combats with teeny vest tops.
1998: The All Saints Stripes(pictured). There wasn’t a teen or tween (or anyone in there 20s or 30s, come to think of it) in ’98 who didn’t have the All Saint stripes – namely a heavily highlighted crown, with the underneath section almost black. Looks pretty dated now, but boy, did we love it so.
