Is it just us or has anyone else noticed the influx of super sugary, slightly obscene sugar porn on our news feeds? From the Cronut to the Rainbow bagel, and amazing mermaid ice cream, we've tracked down the most bizarre puddings, cakes, biscuits and snacks out there. If you've got a sweet tooth look away now...

Bored of mermaids all over your Instagram? Not anymore. Four Winters, the liquid nitrogen ice cream specialists, teamed up with Meringue Girls to make this beaut. It's coconut ice cream folded with natural blueberry and raspberry purees, and served in a cup or a naturally-coloured purple waffle cone, all topped with a handmade mermaid tail and starfish meringues. WE'RE NOT FINISHED YET. The ice cream is finished with a shower of shimmering mermaid pearls, coconut flakes and a dusting of edible silver glitter. Wowsers. Get yours from August 10-27 at Four Winters' London parlours.

It could be breakfast, it could be teatime, regardless of when you are caught in the midst of a pastry dilemma… don’t worry this picture-perfect mix of a croissant and a doughnut will definitely satisfy your needs. Created by Chef Dominique Ansel it can typically be found at his trademark bakery in New York, we understand this might be a bit far away so here’s how you can make it at home. Fry some laminated dough in grape seed oil, sugar it up, add some delicious filling and to finish, top it off with a beautiful glaze. Still a bit too optimistic for some of you? Don’t worry; Greggs came out with their own version labelled 'The Greggsnut'. For some reason it doesn’t sound quite as exciting though.

Dominique Ansel strikes again! He has now created this slightly more justified treat. A cookie shaped cup, filled with a generous amount of vanilla milk. Try switching out your afternoon tea for one of these.
K West Hotel
Deep Fried Crème Egg Burger
The Chefs at K West Hotel & Spa in London wowed us with the Crème Egg burger last year, but now they are back and bringing us some deep-fried goodness. Don’t let the name put you off, this is a brioche bun dipped in white chocolate and raspberry sprinkles, layered with a battered crème egg, squashed by a second brioche bun and topped off with mascarpone cream and strawberry jelly. What could be gross about that?

The Double Doughnut Burger
With a monstrous 1,966 calories, 125g of fat, and 53g of sugar who thought it was possible to eat two days worth of your daily allowance in one meal (and that’s without sides). Another British creation; two beef burgers topped with melted cheese, four bacon rashers smothered in barbecue sauce, and finally squashed between two sugar-glazed doughnuts. We warn you this has been dubbed a ‘heart attack on a plate’ but if you are willing to take the plunge it can be found in more than 220 Hungry Horse pubs across the UK.

Red Velvet Cake Milkshake
An Australian cafe in Canberra, Café Patissez, has created something of a monster with the 'Freakshow', a bizarre combo of milkshakes and deserts that have proved a massive hit down under. Our choice? The red velvet cake. If a flight to Australia is one sugar craving too far, just follow these steps and bring the phenomenon home. Start off by baking a simple red velvet cake. Split the cake in half. Put one half in a blender, mix in some milk to form the ‘shake’. Decorate your jar with some raspberry jelly and fill your shake to the top. Now it’s time to layer. Cut a slice from the other half and place it on top of your shake, add a large amount of whipped cream, add another layer of cake, add a fair amount of frosting and top it off with a raspberry or strawberry of your choice. Voilà. Enjoy! (slurp)

Sometimes you just need a waterfall of hot melted chocolate in your life. Add strawberries, marshmallows or drink it straight if you're daring. This one from La Fontaine de Chocolat is the perfect addition to any party.

Angie Dudley, AKA Bakerella from Georgia whipped up these beauties back in 2008 and they are strong proving popular. The cake shaped lollipops covered in icing or chocolate, topped off with some sprinkles are completely delicious and the perfect bite sized treat.

Not a fan of the hotdog? Then this sweet alternative might be for you. Created in Sydney, Gelato Messina came up with this refreshing alternative. A chocolate ice cream sausage, smothered in raspberry ketchup and passion fruit mustard, sprinkled with coconut onions, and topped off with a sweet buttercream mayo. Ummm, yummy. Right?

The name is pretty self-explanatory, a doughnut shaped macaroon, filled with a generous amount of strawberry cream and cookie filling. An awesome creation by luxury macaroon extraordinaire Francois Payards that you have to try if you are torn on an afternoon snack… this does still count as a snack right?

If you ever find yourself in Brooklyn, New York, pop into Robicelli’s in the Bay Ridge neighbourhood, where they have made a sweet, gluttonous attempt to improve everyone’s favourite Italian dish. A buttery lasagne base topped with a cannoli custard, nutella, more nutella, another few dollops of nutella, sprinkled with a beautiful mix of roasted hazelnuts and chopped chocolates and finally topped off with a selection of marshmallows. This dish can be served hot or cold… Did someone say #breakfastfordinner?

The Rainbow Bagel
Another born and bred Brooklyn creation, we couldn’t possibly leave off this naughty but nice number. These beautifully coloured Rainbow Bagels took the nation by storm and are all down to New York bagel artist Scot Rossillo. They are typically filled with funfetti crème cheese, which FYI, is real cake mix, but can also be enjoyed with any filling of your choice. You can now find them pretty much anywhere and they are also fairly straightforward to make, you just need a ton of dough and a lot of food colouring. Probably best not to give to children. Ever.

The Cheesy Watermelon Kit Kat
This Kit Kat might be Nestle's most bizarre creation yet. The sweet wafers are sandwiched between a Hokkaido melon powder and mascarpone cheese, covered in a coat of white chocolate. Not that we would normally go to the extent of mixing fruit, cheese, AND chocolate this weird, colourful treat does look fairly enticing. Unfortunately, we might be waiting a while to try one as they have only been released in Japan. Probably for the best.

Oreo Bagel
Move over rainbow bagel there's a new creation in town and it definitely doesn't disappoint. Bagel Nook, New Jersey have introduced the 'Oreo Overload' to their menu. The famous bagel store take pride in pushing bagel boundaries and it looks like they have done it again. The bagel is a simple mix of vanilla and chocolate, creating a beautiful marble finish (yum), whole Oreo cookies are centered in the middle (wait for it), they are then sandwiched in between a very generous offering of cookies and cream flavoured creme cheese filling! Yes our mouths are watering too, someone get us on the next plane to New Jersey NOW PLEASE.
