Style Of Wight: The Nails

We're off to the Isle of Wight Festival with Official Backstage Nail & Make-Up Partner Revlon: but which exclusive nail design will we choose? Jenny Longworth, Revlon's UK Nail Ambassador (and nail artist to stars like Jessie J) has created four gorgeous designs exclusively for the festival. Follow Jenny's steps to nail art success...

LOOK ONE: FLORAL NOVEAUX
Jenny says: “This is a nouveaux design with a seventies twist and really speaks about the branding of the Isle of Wight. Pretty flower power with some real welly!”
Shopping List: Basecoat; Fuchia Fever; Nail Art Detailer Brush; Charming; Knockout; Topcoat
STEP ONE: Start with your basecoat, this will help your nail enamel adhere to the nail plate and also prevent any staining. Always use a basecoat as this will look last longer
STEP TWO: Sweep over a Fuschia Fever base colour, try as a rule to do this in three strokes – one down the middle of the nail and two down the sides
STEP THREE: Using a very small brush or nail art brush start flower detail from the base of the nail with Charming. Make sure you don’t overload the colour on the stick or brush and blot any excess on a tissue
STEP FOUR: Then add the swirl with the Knockout, make sure you have the heel of the hand connected on a surface to steady your hands
STEP FIVE: Add the dot details in with Sassy, here’s where you can add a bit more enamel on a cocktail stick as you want the colour to drop slightly and form the perfect circle

STEP SIX: Make sure that you ‘float’ your topcoat over the top of your design so you don’t drag the polish
And voila! The final look.
LOOK TWO: PEACOCK FEATHER
Shopping List: Revlon Basecoat; Revlon Nail Enamel in Charming; Nail Art Detailer Brush; Revlon Nail Enamel in Dreamer; Revlon Nail Enamel in Sassy; Revlon Nail Enamel in Knockout; Revlon Nail Enamel in Fuschia Fever; Revlon Topcoat; Revlon Liquid Quickdry

STEP ONE: Start with your basecoat, this will help your nail enamel adhere to the nail plate and also prevent any staining. Always use a basecoat as this will look last longer
STEP TWO: Sweep over a Charming base colour, try as a rule to do this in three strokes – one down the middle of the nail and two down the sides
STEP THREE: Using a cocktail stick create a medium dot Dreamer in to create the eye of the peacock feather close to the nail bed, you can use a cocktail stick to do this by overloading it slightly with enamel so the colour to drops slightly on the nail to form the perfect circle and then swirl the colour round to create a wider circle

STEP FOUR: Draw round the blue circle with our Knockout shade using a nail art brush and then create the stem of the feather
STEP FIVE: Clean your brush using some nail enamel remover and then add your lines in Sassy, you don’t have to be too perfect with this step, just create a feeling of lots of tiny feathers coming out of your stem
STEP SIX: While this dries add a small dot of Fuchsia Fever, using a clean cocktail stick in the eye of the feather
STEP SEVEN: Now your green should be dry enough for you to make some fine feather lines in Fashionista leading away from the stem. Try to make the lines as fine as possible to make your feathers feel more delicate
STEP EIGHT: Make sure that you ‘float’ your topcoat over the top of your design so you don’t drag the polish, uses the three stroke method you would for your base colour to make sure your whole nail is covered
STEP NINE: Two minutes after your last coat when your nails are touch dry you can speed up drying with the Revlon Quickdry Oil, this works by starving the polish from the air making it dry quicker. Our Nail Ambassador Jenny Longworth says: “No amount of blowing or flapping will dry your nails any quicker – oil is the best for getting nails dry.”

LOOK THREE: STARRY NIGHT
Shopping List: Revlon Basecoat; Revlon Nail Enamel in Plum Seduction; Revlon Nail Enamel in Impulsive; A Makeup Sponge; Nail Art Detailer Brush; Revlon Nail Enamel in Whitest White; Revlon Topcoat

STEP ONE: Start with your basecoat, this will help your nail enamel adhere to the nail plate and also prevent any staining. Always use a basecoat as this will look last longer
STEP TWO: Sweep over Plum Seduction Nail Enamel base colour
STEP THREE: Paint Impulsive onto the makeup sponge and then dab this on bottom part and tips of your nails. You want to build up the colour towards the ends, and change the part of the sponge you’re using frequently as the enamel can dry and clog – the quicker you do this part the better. Don’t worry if your purple goes on your fingers too, you can tidy this up later using a cotton bud soaked in remover
STEP FOUR: Add the dot details in with Whitest White, here’s where you can add a bit more enamel on a nail design brush as you want the colour to ‘bead’ on the end of the brush, then using the tip of your brush, flick the white outwards to form the points of your stars. Vary the size of your stars and for the smaller ones they can be crosses and have your starts travelling diagonally across the nail

STEP FIVE: Leave this to dry for a few minutes and then ‘float’ your topcoat over the top of your design so you don’t drag the polish, uses the three stroke method you would for your base colour to make sure your whole nail is covered
STEP SIX: Two minutes after your last coat when your nails are touch dry you can speed up drying with the Revlon Quickdry Oil
LOOK FOUR: RAINBOW
Jenny says: “The blue of Dreamer is reminiscent of the sea and sky in the summertime.”
Shopping List: Basecoat; Revlon Nail Enamel in Dreamer; Nail Art Detailer Brush; Revlon Nail Enamel in Whitest White; Revlon Nail Enamel in Fashionista; Revlon Nail Enamel in Siren; Revlon Nail Enamel in Fushia Fever; Revlon Nail Enamel in Sassy; Topcoat

STEP ONE: Start with your basecoat, this will help your nail enamel adhere to the nail plate and also prevent any staining. Always use a basecoat as this will look last longer
STEP TWO: Sweep over a Dreamer base colour, try as a rule to do this in three strokes – one down the middle of the nail and two down the sides
STEP THREE: Using a very small nail art brush start the rainbow with your Whitest White closest to the tip in the bottom left corner of the nail. Make sure you don’t overload the colour on the brush and blot any excess on a tissue
STEP FOUR: Now you have your guide on white build further on top of this line using Siren, Sassy, Fushia Fever on top of your line and then Fashionista finally underneath your white. With this guide and by going from the lighter colours to the darker colours you can build your confidence
STEP FIVE: Our Nail Ambassador Jenny Longworth says, “Don’t worry at this stage if you go over the edge of the nail. Once you’ve finished you can tidy this up using a concealer brush dipped in remover – this will also give you a sharper edge
STEP SIX: What we love about this look is that it looks a lot harder to do than it is, once you have the hang of it! Some of the lighter colours might need a second coat too so you can tidy as you go
STEP SEVEN: Make sure that you ‘float’ your topcoat over the top of your design so you don’t drag the polish
