Spring/summer 2016 hair trend report: the best styles to try

SS16 was awash with brand new hair cuts, styles, colours and accessories. Both on the catwalk and backstage, we witnessed a lot of new trends and the return of some classic favourites.
Take, for example, the comeback of straight hair, so sleek it was almost glass-like. Super-smooth ponytails also made an appearance at shows such as Balmain and Chanel, while simple, loose straight hair was showcased at Jonathan Saunders and Alexander Wang.
In terms of hair accessories, everything from simple Alice bands to chic crowns were on show - even 'choker hair' (loose strands of hair tucked into a necklace, collar or choker) became a thing.
Short hair was also taken to the extreme this season, with the bold buzzcut being the style of the season.
Take a look at our gallery below to discover what the most important Spring/Summer 2016 hair trends are...
GettyStraight hair
This season saw the return of super straight locks, so sleek they were almost glass-like. SS16 is officially the time to ditch your curling tongs and reach for those long-forgotten straightening irons. Styles were kept in place at Sibling with high-shine hairbands.

Mary Katrantzou's girls walked down the runway with slightly wet-looking straight hair.

At Zang Toi, hair quite literally could not have been any straighter.

Models at Jonathan Saunders showed off their slightly textured styles backstage.

Straight hair was combined with straight partings at Givenchy.

At Alexander Wang, hair was given a slightly messy feel, but was still kept straight with not a wave or curl in sight.
IndigitalStraight hair
Models at Dries Van Noten walked down the runway with messy quiffs and straight locks pushed back.

Straight hair
Hair was straighter than straight at Markus Lupfer. Many of the styles were accompanied by full fringes, too.
IndigitalBuzzcuts
The biggest (and boldest) cut of the season? The buzzcut. Only for the brave, this style was debuted at shows such as Saint Laurent.
IndigitalBuzzcuts
The look was given an extra edge at Gucci with oversized sunglasses and high collared necklines.

At Versace, bleach blonde cuts were combined with matching bleached eyebrows.

Rose gold locks were big news at Carven, which made for pastel perfection.

Cool coral-toned rose gold also made an appearance at Eudon Choi, and was given a rock chick edge with piercings and bundles of attitude.

A unique take on the trend had FROWers in awe at Vivienne Westwood, where pastel wigs sat on top of the models' actual hair.
IndigitalChoker Hair
This season, hair was tucked into scarves and chokers to create a sophisticated style we'll be coveting all summer long.
IndigitalChoker hair
Models at Christopher Kane had their hair tucked neatly into neck-wear, too. Who knew zip ties could be cool?
IndigitalShort Fringes
Fringes were kept sharp and short for SS16, making the mini fringe officially cool again.
IndigitalShort Fringes
The girls at Prada rocked the look alongside their iconic gold lips. Unlike at other shows, where bangs were dry and fluffy in texture, the fringes at Prada were wet-look and stuck to the models' foreheads.
IndigitalShort Fringes
In comparison, at Gucci the girls sported fluffy, slightly longer bangs.
IndigitalShort Fringes
Fringes at Lanvin were accessorised with pretty pastel hair slides. They were also given a slight edge with subtly slanted cuts.
IndigitalShort fringes
Short fringes were also everywhere backstage at Alexander Wang.

Bangs were short and messy at Christopher Kane.

Short Fringes
Punk-friendly, the choppy short fringes at Marc Jacobs were the stuff of dreams.
IndigitalPuns
The pun made its entrance this season. Confused? We were, too. This ponytail/bun hybrid appeared at shows such as Bottega Veneta, with stars like Daisy Ridley and Rooney Mara rocking the trend off the catwalk, too.
IndigitalPuns
At 3.1 Philip Lim, textured and messy puns were accessorised with neon netted hairbands and clips.
IndigitalPuns
At Balenciaga, the style was relaxed and low.
IndigitalPuns
... while at Bottega Veneta, the puns sat a little higher on the head.

Here they are again at Rag & Bone.
IndigitalCrowns
SS16 saw the rise of hair accessories like never before. Things got regal at shows such as Saint Laurent with models wearing pretty tiaras and crowns while walking down the catwalk.
IndigitalCrowns
At Dolce & Gabbana, crowns were colourful and floral.
IndigitalCrowns
And at Givenchy, they had a fierce Gladiator-esque feel.
IndigitalHeadbands
The humble Alice band was also brought back with a twist, with designers such as Dolce & Gabbana opting for gorgeous decorated gold headpieces.
InDigitalHeadbands
Things got graphic at Miu Miu, where headbands were monochrome and paired with centre partings and berry lips.

Again at Miu Miu, headbands were angled and metallic, making way for the models' unique ombre lips.
IndigitalHeadbands
The models at Gucci rocked stunning embellished bands.
IndigitalHeadbands
At Givenchy, Alice bands were a little more understated which allowed for the bold netted face-wear to really shine.
GettyHeadbands
One headband was not enough for the models at Chanel, who walked the catwalk with two shiny accessories in their locks.
IndigitalSleek ponytails
Straight hair was not only left loose, but was also tied up into low, sleek ponytails. Some of the best examples were at Oscar De La Renta.
IndigitalSleek Ponytails
Models at Chanel also rocked the look, with silvery-grey accessories keeping the style in place.
IndigitalSleek Ponytails
Ribbons were used at Dior to keep the hair in place, and to allow for the gorgeous matching earring and necklace sets to be fully appreciated by onlookers.
IndigitalSleek Ponytails
The catwalk at Salvatore Ferragamo was awash (pun intended) with wet-look ponytails.

Sleek Ponytails
And at Balmain, styles were brought a little higher and secured with pieces of hair wrapped around the base of the ponytail.
IndigitalPlaits
Gorgeous
plaits and braids were everywhere this season, too. Just take a look at this impressive double French plait, spotted backstage at Giles.
IndigitalPlaits
Alexander McQueen proved braids don't have to be clean and neat.
IndigitalPlaits
Cute, thin braids were also noticeable at shows like Louis Vuitton.
GettyPlaits
Subtle braided styles also caught the FROW's attention at Giles this season.
IndigitalPlaits
Hair was plaited to the side backstage at Gucci.

Simple, clean and glossy plaits complimented the clothes at Celine.
