The best movie & TV vampires - the good, the bad and the sexy

Vampires are sexy. Fact. And they're not just for Halloween. To prove our point we count down the underworld's biggest pin-ups from the world of movies and TV.
From Angel through Spike to Blade, Dracula and Edward Cullen we can't help but wish that one of them would pay us a visit. Is that wrong?
From vampires to witches, here are our favorite movie and TV witches ever.
Rex FeaturesEric Northman from True Blood
The vampire who's badder than bad but we still like him. In the words of Sookie Stackhouse herself: “If there were an international butt competition, Eric would win, hands down – or cheeks up.” Enough said.
Rex FeaturesBill Compton from True Blood
The gentleman vampire. Stephen Moyer as Bill Compton is the strong, silent type and, as you’d expect from someone who was born in 1835, has all the manners of a Victorian gentleman. With all that sexual tension flying round, it’s no surprise Stephen Moyer and his co-star Anna Paquin hooked up when the cameras stopped rolling.
Rex FeaturesAngel from Buffy The Vampire Slayer
The vampire with a soul. Buffy may have been a Slayer but that didn’t stop her from falling in love with a few of them. Angel was her true love and who can blame the girl - chiseled, the body of a god and forever in torment. David Boreanaz - you made vampires sexy. End of.
Rex FeaturesStefan from The Vampire Diaries
The vampire that goes to high school. Like many teenagers, high school vampire Stefan (played by Paul Welsey) suffers with his hormones. But, unlike everyone else, this means that his eyes turn blood red and his skin goes pale and veiny whenever he sees his love interest Elena. Could be a bit of a problem, that.
Rex FeaturesDamon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries
The vampire who makes us blush. When The Vampire Diaries hit screens in 2009, the team were no doubt expecting clean-cut, all-American hero Stefan would be the show’s pin-up. Little did they know that teenage girls (and their mothers) everywhere would wind up lusting after Damon, Stefan’s evil, malevolent, but downright sexy big brother as portrayed by Ian Somerhalder.
Rex FeaturesMichael from The Lost Boy
The vampire who couldn't let go. 80s pin-up Jason Patric was soooo cool as the good boy gone a wee bit bad when he accidentally turns vamp whilst trying to impress a girl. Best scene ever: Michael comes home from a night of vamping and his little brother shrieks; “My own brother, a goddamn, shit-sucking vampire. You wait 'till mom finds out, buddy!”.
Rex FeaturesJohn from The Hunger
The vampire with style. David Bowie played a goblin king, an alien and an FBI agent but here we celebrate him as Catherine Deneuve’s companion John, a vampire who discovers he is immortal but not immune to aging.
Rex FeaturesSpike from Buffy The Vampire Slayer
The rock’n’roll vampire. While Angel was the vampire with a soul, Spike (James Marsters) was the bad boy who also found his way into Buffy’s affections. He claimed Billy Idol stole his look (leathers, bleached white hair) and this teamed with his cockney accent and total disregard for, well, anything made him super super sexy.
Rex FeaturesDracula from Bram Stoker’s Dracula
The original vampire. Frances Ford Coppola’s take on the classic novel featured a very dashing Oldman as the Count. He loses his looks later down the line but ten out of ten for the over-the-top accent and general creepiness.
Rex FeaturesEdward Dalton from Daybreakers
The vampire who likes the ladies. After Twilight , 2010’s cult vamp flick Daybreakers may have given ‘vampires’ back to the boys, but it gave us vamp cinema’s second sexiest Edward – the smoldering Dalton brother. Like Cullen, Ethan Hawke’s Edward dines strictly on the blood of animals, has an eye for ladies of the human persuasion and makes our heart skip a beat every time he sizzles on to the screen.
Rex FeaturesLestat from Interview with a Vampire
The eternal Vampire. Tom Cruise took a break from being an action hero for a turn in Anne Rice’s screen adaptation of her vampire series. Lestat is a charming but deadly vampire who are supposed to hate - but really just can't.
Rex FeaturesDavid from The Lost Boys
The vampire who didn’t want to grow up. Possibly the best film of the 80s saw a group of vampires seek to recruit new member Michael for their – dare we say it – pretty damn cool gang. Kiefer Sutherland plays David, who speaks the immortal line... “they’re only noodles, Michael...”
Rex FeaturesVlad from Dracula Untold
A 15th century Dracula here in the handsome shape of Luke Evans (swoon). To be honest whatever shape Evans takes we're smitten. Bite me.
Rex FeaturesLouis from Interview with a Vampire
The reluctant vampire. Possibly THE hottest look for Brad Pitt ever, Louis plays sidekick to Lestat for as long as he can take it, but his soul is not cut out for vampirism. Frankly with that long hair and kinky vampire get-up we’re not massively bothered about his soul.
Rex FeaturesLestat from Queen of the Damned
Stuart Townsend's turn to play Anne Rice's Lestat and does so in full rock'n'roll style. The film wasn't a hit but we're happy with our vampish memories...
Rex FeaturesDracula in Dracula
TV series that saw Victorian Dracula come to contemporary London. Starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers as a very pretty Prince of Darkness.
Rex FeaturesCount Von Count from Sesame Street
What d'ya mean the count ain't sexy?
Rex FeaturesBarnabas from Dark Shadows
Johnny Deep takes on the vampiric form for this Tim Burton (obvs) sleeper hit about a wronged chap who is cursed by a witch and forced to live out his remaining days as a vampire. His oddness does not contribute to his hotness - but then his hotness is a fait de complete because he is, and always will be, JD.
Rex FeaturesAdam in Only Lovers Left Alive
Jim Jarmusch gives us a love story in which we see Tom Hiddleston play a disheveled and slightly depressed vampire. Is he hot? Guys - it's Tom Hiddleston?
Rex FeaturesCaius from Twilight: New Moon
The bad boy vampire. The evil Volturi vampire Caius was Edward Cullen mortal enemy in the second Twilight film.
Rex FeaturesBlade from Blade
The tough-guy vampire. Wesley Snipes added a touch of the action hero to the Marvel creation Blade - a bad-ass, half-man/ half-vampire who sets out to protect humans from the evil vampires emerging in the city.

Edward Cullen from Twilight
The vampire that can read your mind. Twilight’s hero played by Robert Pattinson, brought new meaning to being pale and interesting. Like all vampires, Edward Cullen has a taste for blood, but that’s all too easy to forget when you look at his ripped torso and high cheek bones.
