Everyone on Instagram is wearing this £85 designer-inspired trench coat from River Island

Ah, the winter coat - the hardest working piece in our wardrobe and the item we end up living in the most throughout the season. Basically, the winter coat is the most important thing on our shopping list in the colder months.

Want to be on brand this season? Well, there’s a trench - a vinyl one from River Island - that everyone is talking about, thanks to the thousands of bloggers and other stylish folk sporting it on the ‘gram.

Priced at £85, it’s flying off the shelves. This week alone, sales of the trench were up by 40 per cent, with only just under 100 units now left in stock. We can see why, though. Made from polyurethane in a gorgeous brown hue aka the colour of the season, it features notch lapels, a flattering tie waist and could easily pass for a designer number.

Part of River Island's AW18 collection, this stylish, high-shine number taps into the vinyl trend that first made its appearance on the autumn-winter 2017 catwalks with designers such as Saint Laurent, Marni and Lanvin featuring them in their collections.

Blogger Naomi Ross has said she loves the coat as she can be as 'clumsy as she likes', due to the water-resistant fabric.

It has also been spotted on model Adwoa Aboah and fashion editors, who have all given the trench their seal of approval.

In their outerwear campaign, River Island has layered it under a matching tan teddy jacket - a great way to get more mileage out of the trench when the weather gets cold, right?
