This is the makeup artist-approved way to apply eyeliner so that you'll never rock wobbly flicks again

Winged eyeliner is up there with the most iconic makeup looks of all time. Audrey Hepburn, Ariana, Adele – all have made it their signature, and for good reason. A crisp cat flick can instantly make eyes look sultrier and lashes thicker.

But unlike a red lip or even a smudgy, smoky eye, it's so faffing hard to master. Oh to be blessed with a steady hand and even eyeliner flicks. You know, the kind that look like they've been sketched out with expert precision, rather than striped on at odd angles.

Still, we can't all be Adele, who incidentally has a team of makeup artists on hand whenever she fancies looking like a Hollywood siren.

We can, however benefit from the infinite wisdom of internet folk who have taken on the challenge of wibbly lines, possibly sworn a couple of times, then come out the other side victorious. Well done them.

"I usually get a lot of compliments on my winged eyeliner so I wanted to share my best eyeliner hack with you," she said. "I do my eye makeup before my foundation, I make a messy wing, then I grab a makeup wipe, fold it and wipe the eyeliner into a sharp edge. Quick, easy and foolproof."

It got me thinking – what expert tips have I discovered myself in my time as a beauty journalist? For starters, every makeup artist I've met will tell you that a (biodegradable) cotton bud dipped in micellar water will work a treat at sharpening up edges. Charlotte Tilbury once told me to draw a dot at the end point of your flick on either side of your eyes first, "that way to know where you're aiming for". And Bobbi Brown's Pro makeup artist, Amy Conway told me to try a gel liner if liquid always ends up smudging on you, "it's more solid and less smeary".
