How to secure a spot on Forbes 30 Under 30 by a girl boss alumni
If you’ve got a burning business idea but aren’t sure how to execute it, the annual Forbes 30 Under 30 list is bound to provide some serious entrepreneurial inspiration.
Each year, Forbes crowns 30 of the most inspirational and talented game-changers under the age of 30 in 20 different industries - and there are some seriously inspiring girl bosses among them.
As this year’s batch of talent is unveiled, we’ve called on Holly Scarsella, 29, from London, who was named on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe Retail & Fashion list in 2017 to reveal how you can turn your business dream into a reality.
The fashion entrepreneur single-handedly launched Pampelone Clothing in 2016 and just 18 months later, she's selling her French Riviera-inspired resortwear in 20 countries via 90 retail partners and counts Blake Lively and Olivia Palermo among her fans.
Here, Holly tells GLAMOUR UK exactly what it takes to land a coveted position on Forbes 30 Under 30 so you can hone your entrepreneurial skills and get yourself a spot on 2018’s list.
1. "Ensure regular networking: Lots of nominees get recognised through word of mouth and through nomination from people in the industry so the more you’re networking and speaking about your business, the more chance you have of being noticed."
2. "Ask for advice: Feel confident enough to approach someone who has previously been on the list and ask them how they can advise getting noticed."
3. "Start attending Forbes events: Go out of your way to attend their events and talks, including their yearly conference. Getting ‘face time’ in with the team is always helpful!"
4. "Make YOURSELF as well as your business known: These days I’ve found it important to be as much the ‘face’ of your business as it is running it."
Instagram content
5. "Learn the entry criteria: You can easily find this on the website and use it as a starting point to work towards."
6. "Start entering smaller more achievable awards: Whether it’s retail or media, entering awards in your field will get you noticed in the industry and ensure you’re on the radar of the committee."
7. "Find out who the committee actually are and make yourself known: Whether a polite ‘hello’ at an event or a courteous and smartly worded email, this can only work in your favour."
8. "Don’t be shy: If you’ve hit a great milestone in your business then talk about it. Whether through customer emails, Instagram or press, it’s important for people to know how well you’re doing!"
9. "Focus, focus, focus: The Forbes list is a HUGE achievement and has helped me greatly but remember that this is accredited for success. Don’t chase the list, chase success and the list will come."
10. "Make sure you’ve got a good headshot: It sounds so silly but it makes you look much more professional when submitting your information."
