Outdoor rugs are my current obsession: the latest in an embarrassingly long line of garden furniture purchases ahead of a summer packed full of outdoor socialising.

Do outdoor rugs have to be cleaned after every use?

In short, no.

The key with outdoor rug cleaning is to the read the description carefully before you make a purchase. For some, brands ask that buyers bring their outdoor rugs inside when not in use, to avoid mould and dirt build-up. On the other hand, some outdoor rugs are almost completely weather resistant and can withstand rain, snow and whatever else the UK throws at us. With this taken into account, outdoor rugs that need to be brought inside likely won't need cleaning all that often and, when they do, the product instructions will probably ask buyers just to spot clean. For waterproof rugs, they may gather dust and dirt and, for the most part, it's recommended that buyers vacuum them from time to time. Alternatively, some outdoor rugs are machine washable - ideal for the time strapped of us.
