Ones to Watch 2014

We've been busy consulting our crystal ball of late and, from it, we've compiled our cool list: people you NEED to know about now. Because, frankly, they're gonna be huge. From actors and models to bands and bloggers, we bring you our official hotlist of 30 to look out for in 2014. Although, believe us, you won't have to look hard…
Caroline NielsenPatrick Bruel
Category: Singer, actor and professional poker player
Age: 55
From: France
Why will we be seeing him in 2014? To say Patrick will be the next big thing isn't strictly fair, as he has an absolutely ginormous fan base in France and several successful films under his belt - but it looks like he'll be the next big thing to hit the UK. Only a few weeks ago, he played his first UK show - and it wasn't in a dingy pub, but in the Royal Albert Hall, no less. He can sing, dance, play multiple instruments and keep an audience on their feet for hours - and we can tell you first-hand that he's one of the friendliest celebs we've ever met. He's dubbed the French George Clooney, but he loves all things British (he couldn't resist singing a David Bowie song at his London concert) - and there may even be an English album in the pipeline. We can't wait to hear it.
Rae Morris
Category: Singer
Age: 22
From: Blackpool
Why will we be seeing her in 2014? We first saw Rae Morris when she supported Paolo Nutini at the iTunes Festival in London, singing her heart out and playing the piano, and now we’ve become major fan-girls. The 22-year-old, who will be supporting George Ezra in October, has been described as “a rare refined talent” by The Sunday Times. Fans have to wait until next year for her debut album, but her first single, Closer, is set for release on 22 October. Remember this face, everyone! Listen to Closer on Soundcloud here - enjoy!

She is featuring on Gorgon City’s new single Here for You and we promise you, it’s so catchy it’ll stay in your head ALL day (in a good way). If you’re not au fait with Gorgon City, the English electronic music production duo are the brains behind the catchy Top 5 single Ready For Your Love at the beginning of the year. Watch them perform together during the Original Penguin Plugged-In Series here - enjoy!

Why will we be seeing her in 2014? Emma made headlines this year when she beat off 24 other Brit beauties to be crowned the winner of The Face UK, Naomi Campbell’s nationwide model search. The willowy half-Dutch, half-Jamaican beauty is now starring in Max Factor’s Christmas ad campaign for their iconic False Lash Effect Mascara, with the brand’s head honchos themselves saying Emma reminded them of Mr Max Factor’s original 1920s muse, Marlene Dietrich: “She has a really original look with unique, strong eyes.” Stay tuned, people, we’re predicting big things.

Why will we be seeing them in 2014? Like the aural equivalent of a smack in the face, this riff-heavy rock duo is unashamedly loud yet surprisingly melodic. Already making critics, music honchos and rock legends shut up and take note; we mere mortals can catch them supporting the Arctic Monkeys next summer and no doubt causing a ruckus. In a good way.

She’s the kooky, music-obsessed, bohemian hippie chick currently fronting the aptly colourful United Colours of Benetton campaign, complete with rainbow locks and 11 tattoos. Why will we be seeing her in 2014? Because, frankly, we love her. As outspoken, blunt and sassy in her interviews as she is in her lyrics, this pretty little popstral may look like a princess but she packs a powerful punch. Chlöe’s pop-friendly brand of frank words and electro beats makes her a refreshing anomaly in today’s manufactured, media-trained conveyor belt.

She has since been cast in the live-action re-imagining of Walt Disney’s Cinderella, playing the eponymous princess with a penchant for glass footwear, opposite the likes of Cate Blanchett and Helena Bonham Carter. Kudos.

Why will we be seeing him in 2014? Internet poet and vlogger, Steve’s uniquely witty and energetic signature brand of poetry is refreshing; at times, laugh out loud and ALWAYS, peppered with poor grammar. His most-recent book of works, entitled If U Don’t Love The Moon Your An Ass Hole: Poems and Selfies (sic), is choc-a-bloc with odd ditties, such as “im not totaly sure how to ‘double dog dare’ but im hangin out with 2 dogs right now im thinkin of goin for it” (sic). World domination beckons. http://livemylief.com/

Why will we be seeing her in 2014? Rolling beats, ethereal vocals and smouldering lyrics make this kooky singer a welcome, not to mention saucy, break from convention. Fiona McFarlane
Category: Author
Age: 35
From: Sydney
Why will we be seeing her in 2014? Aussie Fiona’s hypnotic and fierce (quite literally), debut novel The Night Guest was released to critical acclaim this year. Telling the story of a slightly-dotty elderly widow who is awoken one night to find a tiger in the living room – somewhat odd, you might think – but it’s fundamentally more profound, thought-provoking and tender than you’d initially think. If you haven’t read it yet, remedy this pronto. And keep your eyes peeled for her upcoming works. We predict greatness.
