American Idol is back! With a new broadcaster and new additions to the panel of judges. After rumours emerged that the series would be returning to the American telly, fans of the show started speculating who would be giving away golden tickets to Hollywood.

Well, ABC started dropping names people, and Katy freaking Perry will be joining the show. Can you feel our excitement?

Last year, Fox called quits on American Idol, after airing it for 15 seasons. Now, picked up by ABC, the talent show promises a much different but greater series - and adding Katy Perry to their credits seems like a pretty smart move.

"We are thrilled to be ushering in this new era of American Idol with Katy leading the charge" - ABC says on statement they've released to announce the news.

And since Simon Cowell denied the proposal return to the panel and lead the series, Katy will be the one in charge to discover and mentor the face of America's favourite music show; and the singer is excited:

"I am honored and thrilled to be the first judge bringing back the American Idol tradition of making dreams come true for incredible talents with authentic personalities and real stories. I'm always listening to new music, and love discovering diamonds in the rough – from mentoring young artists on my label, or highlighting new artists on my tours, I want to bring it back to the music" - she commented for the press.

This is going to be good.
