19 movie pets we wish we owned

Forget the stunning wardrobes and hunky actors, movie pets and animals are the real stars.
From Elle Wood's chicly-dressed Chihuahua Bruiser, to Dorothy's Cairn Terrier Toto in The Wizard of Oz, the fiercley loyal Baxter from Anchorman and Cinderella's dress-making mice, all of these on-screen animals provide excellent sidekicks.
Here we list the pets from movies that we desperately want to cuddle; domestic, exotic, rodent or otherwise...
Rex FeaturesBruiser Woods
Elle Wood's fashionista character would not be complete without Chihuahua sidekick Bruiser Woods. The doted-upon pet, which was present in both Legally Blonde movies, has a chicer wardrobe than our own and an accessory collection to die for. We all want a Bruiser to carry around.
Rex FeaturesMarley
Marley is the loyal, albeit badly behaved and destructive, Golden Labrador from Marley and Me. The pooch is the glue that holds the Grogan family together through times of trouble, giving us all a big reminder that pets can be more than just that. Pass us the tissues, please.
Rex FeaturesBlack Beauty
Black Beauty is the protagonist horse from the eponymous film. The story, adapted from the original novel written by Anna Sewell, tells the tale of the handsome black horse's life and the cruelty and hardship he faces along the way. We all wanted to adopt Black Beauty, braid his mane and ride off in to the sunset.
Rex FeaturesToto
Toto is the Cairn Terrier from The Wizard of Oz, who lives with Dorothy on the farm before their adventures begin in the Land of Oz. He made a fantastic travel buddy.
Rex FeaturesFat Louie
The Princess Diaries tells the story of Mia who learns she's heir to the Kingdom of Genovia, so clearly she needed a suitably regal pet companion to assist her. Enter: Fat Louie. We love his judging glances.
Rex FeaturesBeethoven
Beethoven is the canine hero from the film series Beethoven, who is pet to the Newton family. The St. Bernard is pretty much the greatest family member you could ask for; scaring off Ted's bullies, helping Ryce talk to his crush and... oh you know, SAVING EMILY'S LIFE. All in a days work for Beethoven. (Be ours).
SkyDoug
Doug is the ridiculously happy animated Golden Retriever from Pixar film Up. In the film, Doug can speak (no biggie), and the pup eventually wins over grumpy Carl Fredricksen. Who couldn't love him?
Nick Caputo/YoutubeMrs. George's Chihuahua
Joining Bruiser Woods in the ranks of awesome pet Chihuahuas is Mrs. George's. Mean Girls's Regina is horrified when her mum's pet Chihuahua begins nibbling at her nipple in the film. Who didn't laugh out loud at that scene!?
Rex FeaturesOrangey
Someone as perennially chic as Holly Golighty in needs a pet to match. So professional cat-actor (or, cactor) Orangey was pulled in to play the role in the hit movie Breakfast at Tiffany's. We'd quite like to own her cat, and live in her New York apartment, oh, and be Holly Golighty.
Rex FeaturesBaxter
"BAAAAXTERRRR!" We'll never quite get over the horror of seeing Ron Burgandy's mut from Anchorman thrown over the bridge by an angry biker. But anyone who's seen the film will know Baxter makes a triumphant return. We all need a dog as fiercely loyal as Baxter.
Rex FeaturesJack
Uggie is an award-winning Jack Russell Terrier who is famous for many roles including in 2011's The Artist. In it, he plays Peppy's dog Jack who stick by her through her whirlwind troubles with the press and relationship with George Valentin.
Rex FeaturesSalem
Salem Saberhagen, the former witch from Sabrina the Teenage Witch, isn't just a cute friend, he's also got the wisdom to go with it. The talking cat advises Sabrina through her adolescent life as a witch with witty one-liners and puns galore.
Rex FeaturesPongo and Perdy
If we could have all 101, we would. The Dalmatian parents from 101 Dalmatians, Pongo and Perdy, give birth to the massive Dalmatian brood who become in embroiled in an evil plot by fur-lover Cruella Deville. They're clearly the best dogs ever, can we adopt them?
Rex FeaturesBabe
Babe is the piglet who proved to the world that mud-clad farm animals can be damn cute. We all wanted to take Babe home, though we might need a farm, first...
Rex FeaturesBaby
The 1938's comedy Bringing Up Baby followed the story of Susan Vance, played by Katharine Hepburn, who looks after a leopard named Baby. Baby makes a totally chic, if not slightly impractical, pet.
Rex FeaturesCinderella's mice
Cinderella's mice are her only real friends in the 1950 animated film. The mice are loyal, give good advice and are also dab hands at dress making. Jaq and Gus were our favourites.
Getty ImagesMarcel
Marcel was Ross's pet capuchin monkey from Friends, who appeared in a total of eight episodes throughout the show's ten year running. Marcel was Ross's companion who he was forced to give up when Marcel reached, um, sexual maturity. After that, Marcel went on to become a famous monkey actor. What a cool pet to own.
Rex FeaturesLassie
We all want a bond like Joe Carraclough had with Rough Collie dog, Lassie. The dog also has a fantastic sense of direction. Which helps.
Rex FeaturesHooch
Hooch is the French mastiff from Turner & Hooch who plays the detective sidekick pooch to Tom Hanks' character, Scott Turner. He's slobbery, but we love him.
