Kylie Jenner hangs out with cleft patients as she donates nearly $1million to the organisation
I know Kylie Jenner gets some bad press - the big lips, the sexy pics, the Insta-bragging, but after seeing these pictures of Kylie holding a baby girl with a cleft lip, well, she's gone up in my estimations.
As a writer with a cleft lip myself, after seeing these pictures of Kylie Jenner in Peru - hanging out with children needing cleft palate surgery - she immediately became my favourite Kardashian. Anyone who supports the cause is good by me.
What's more, Kylie has donated nearly $1million to fund surgery for the babies. High fives all around.
The 19-year-old Keeping Up With The Kardashians star visited the South American country with her mum, Kris, in association with the Smile Train organisation. In fact, she's so passionate about the cause, she created a special Lip Kit colour, with proceeds going to the organisation.
In October Kylie unveiled the charity gloss, which she called 'Smile' because of its partnership with Smile Train.
It was the perfect time for Kylie to go and meet the patients as we're in the middle of Cleft Lip and Palate Awareness Week (6 May to 14 May).
Each year, approximately one in 700 children around the world are born with a cleft lip and/or a cleft palate. Susannah Schaefer, CEO of international children's cleft charity Smile Train, has said: "Babies are born with clefts all over the world. It is estimated that more than 170,000 new babies with clefts are born in the developing world each year. Typically, in developed countries, a child's cleft will be repaired soon after birth, but in the developing world many children with clefts are not as fortunate. Families in the developing world often do not have access to quality healthcare services or the resources to pay for proper cleft treatment."
