John Lewis Unveil Vintage Dress Sketches
Love vintage dresses? Then you'll adore these archive sketches from John Lewis, released to mark the Coronation Festival over the weekend.
John Lewis has unveiled a series of archive sketches from its 1953 dress collection to mark the Coronation Festival this weekend.
Each dress was recreated and displayed on a catwalk at Buckingham Palace, to celebrate the best of British fashion over the last 60 years by the royal warrant holders (which the John Lewis London flagship store is).
Jo Hooper, head of buying for womenswear at John Lewis, said: "To celebrate John Lewis’ rich heritage, we chose to search the archives for prints and patterns from the year of the Queen’s Coronation and recreated four exclusive dresses, which will sit beautifully alongside designs from the present day."
Alongside the vintage pieces, designs from the department store's Somerset by Alice Temperley collection as well as Hunter and Daks also feature on the catwalk during The Coronation Festival, which runs from Friday July 12, until Sunday July 14. The John Lewis dresses will go on display in the Oxford Street store window from July 15 to 19, alongside original 1953 brochure images.
