Illamasqua Human Fundamentalism

Illamasqua's spring collection is all about colour. From rich lime greens, through yellow ochre to cold teal, there's something for everyone in this stand-out signature range.

Every once in a while, a beauty collection comes along that we just have to shout about. Illamasqua’s Human Fundamentalism line is one of them.
Filled with rich, bright colours and on-trend stand-out staples: it was love at first sight.
So what’s the story behind the collection?
“Human Fundamentalism is the unique spirit and fundamental human drive for individuality. It’s a belief, a movement and an emotion. A connection with the spirit of the age and its global motifs. You are your own human hybrid, a unique nomad of street cultures and global trends.”
Alex Box, Illamasqua Creative Director.
As usual, the campaign images from the cult British brand are far from shy. From the ‘reverse Marilyn’ (a bronze-skinned beauty with teal lips and bright white brows) to the Cleopatra-esque Egyptian goddess: Illamasqua have seized on the season’s biggest beauty trends and taken them to another level.

Will you dare to wear the stand-out teal Apocolips Lipstick (£15.50) shade?
We asked Alex Box: 'We’ve fallen in love with the Apocalips teal lip colour, but will everyone be able to pull it off?'
She told us: "Yes! Grab this colour with both hands, teal is the new red, it’s the opposite on the colour wheel and so the eye is tricked into accepting this beautiful shade as totally wearable. It looks fresh, is full of intrigue, makes you feel like a rebel without a cause and a girl who is saying 'this is for me' I am what I am'... The confidence you get from doing something different for your self is both infectious and electrifying, it might sound like a grand claim, but this kind of confidence is infectious and that empowers others to go out and take a risk... Girl power!!!"

Q: What advice would you give to people keen to hit on spring’s biggest beauty trends, but who want to create their own signature style?...
Alex: "You know I’m a big believer in not following trends, build your own ship and sail it through the waters of fashion letting them all bob up and down in your wake!! As you’re probably seeing the biggest trend emerging is 'no trend' eclectic hybrids of pick and mix, colour clash, print mayhem and time travel. Vintage with modern dark with light ect. So makeup-wise anything goes, I say go with your gut, be bold! Whether that’s a new lip shade in an unexpected colour and nothing else or a clean crisp line worn in a new way... Remember no trend, means no rules, means no wrong and no rights... No limits, be free!"
Our advice? Be experimental with Illamsaqua’s bold, bright colours and aray of make-up textures. Swap your black liquid liner for the new Precision Ink in pure white Scribe (£17) to make an instant avant-garde beauty statement. Or add a sweep of Cancan Powder Eye Shadow (£15) over the upper lids for a pretty take on this season’s sweet sorbet trend.
