Hugh Hefner's widow & kids must remain drug-free to inherit Playboy fortune
In October 2017, Hugh Hefner, the founder of Playboy, passed away at age 91. Tributes flooded in from some celebrities while others questioned why he's been hailed a 'hero', and his widow Crystal Harris released a heartfelt statement.
Harris signed a prenuptial agreement upon marrying Hefner and was never written into his will. However, reports say that she has been left with a $5 million house and $3 million in money. The rest of Hugh's $32 million fortunes will be split between his four children, Christie, David, Marston and Cooper.
But there's a catch. It's recently been revealed that Harris and Hefner's children will have to remain drug-free to get access to their trust.
In documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight, Hefner’s trust indicates his wife and four children must not take illegal substances or become dependent on illegal substances or alcohol to get their money.
Reported by ET, the document (paraphrased for brevity) states: "mandatory distributions to the beneficiary and the beneficiary’s withdrawal rights will be suspended if the trustees reasonably believe that a beneficiary of any trust routinely or frequently uses or consumes any illegal substance so as to be physically or psychologically dependent upon that substance or is clinically dependent upon the use or consumption of alcohol or any other legal drug or chemical substance that is not prescribed by a board certified medical doctor or psychiatrist in a current program of treatment supervised by such doctor or psychiatrist, and if the Trustees reasonably believe that as a result the beneficiary is unable to care for himself or herself, or is unable to manage his or her financial affairs."
The paperwork also states that random drug tests can be administered on the beneficiary at any given time.
After his death, Harris released a statement: "I haven't been able to bring myself to write most people back to thank them for their condolences," the 31-year-old tells People. "I am heartbroken. I am still in disbelief."
She then then confirmed that Hefner was laid to rest this weekend. "We laid him to rest Saturday," she says. "He is in the place he was always certain he wanted to spend eternity.
"He was an American hero. A pioneer. A kind and humble soul who opened up his life and home to the world. I felt how much he loved me. I loved him so much. I am so grateful. He gave me life. He gave me direction. He taught me kindness. I will feel eternally grateful to have been by his side, holding his hand, and telling him how much I love him."
She finished: "He changed my life, he saved my life. He made me feel loved every single day. He was a beacon to the world, a force unlike anything else. There never has and never will be another Hugh M. Hefner."
The couple's sixty year age-gap caused controversy when the pair began dating in January 2009 when Crystal was just 23-years-old and Hugh 83. The pair were due to wed in June 2011 but Crystal broke off their engagement five days before their planned wedding. They then reconciled and married in December 2012.

Heftner was was laid to rest next to Marilyn Monroe's burial spot. He purchased the crypt in 1992 for $75,000.
