90s snap clips are back – and they can rescue grown-out fringes, too
There is a reason why we keep diving into the archives to find as many 90s trends as possible to bring TF back! 90s babies will tell you how epic that era was without hesitation. One of the trends we’ve been feening over is the return of those retro 90s snap clips. Yep, consider your eight year-old 90s-baby-self the inspiration. But don't worry, she was onto something...
Snap clips might remind you of primary school, sandpits, and book bags, but boy, did they do a mighty fine job of keeping our hair in check while we got on with the important stuff – like reading through Girl Talk with our mates on the playground. Specifically, they were ace at hiding the wonky fringe our mum cut because we wouldn't sit still.
If you’re an afro haired babe, you might even recall how they would tame your side-sweep partings while your coils laid freely. The widest and strongest snap clips even managed to hold those stubborn and freshly done shoulder length beaded box braids in position. I mean, they really came through for all of us.
Fast forward to 2021 and we could still do with the help. Months on end playing DIY hair-dresser, and desperation has done some truly tragic things to our hair line. We haven’t all found the time, courage and effort to fix the misapps our manes went through without the care of a professional, during the lockdown. Those of us who left our strands alone can no longer see through our fringes. And those that went to town with the scissors played Russian-roulette with the outcome. Some came out victorious. Others... not so much.
That's where snap clips come in. Not only were they making a retro revival at the ‘gram and street style set before things got a bit cray cray, but they did a sterling job of turning our fringe faux pas into a fashion statement. The key is to wear them on either side of your parting, just above your eyebrows, to really serve up the throwback vibes. BONUS: they also work a treat at making it look like you've made more effort than you have on your team Zoom meeting.
