All the major hairstyles you need to know from the Autumn/Winter 2020 catwalks
They say that trends are cyclical. You wave them off in one decade only for them return years later. That's certainly true of fashion month (which wrapped this week), where the runways at New York, London, Milan and Paris paid homage to bygone eras with their hairstyles.
Moschino gave us Marie Antoinette poufs, Simone Rocha brought back Victorian-style curls. MSGM and Erdem referenced 20s finger waves, (the latter spritzed silver for added ritz). Rodarte mixed references with Princess Di padded shoulder dresses, played down with modern, loosely waved hair, then dressed back up with 40s birdcage veils.
Anna Sui gave us punked-up teddy boy hair in a 50s throwback, while Christopher John Rogers and Philosophy Di Lorenzo Serafini brought back 70s disco hair with maximalist fros combed out then shaped into place. Dior, meanwhile, took the 70s in a different direction with hippy hair and headbands.
And, the 80s made a triumphant return to the runway. Shrimps channelled Princess Anne's 80s style with white elbow length gloves and bouffant hair. Olivia Rubin cited supermodel Jerry Hall as the inspiration behind the big, blown-out curls and deep side parting, Christian Siriano served up a dose of 80s nostalgia with multi-coloured My Little Pony ponytails and Vivetta saw the return of the 80s shag.

Princess Anne bouffant
Hair at Shrimps was created by stylist Sarah Jo Palmer using Bumble & Bumble. A generous amount of Bb. Thickening Full Form Soft Mousse was applied to give hair the root lift needed.
Victorian curls
At Simone Rocha, tight Victorian ringlets were created to give models a vintage feel.

At Olivia Rubin, stylist Zoe Irwin made use of GHD's new Helios blowdryer to create a gravity-defying blown-out looks, and pinned hair into a side-parting using multi-coloured bobby pins to finish off the 80s look.
Finger waves
At Erdem, hair stylist Anthony Turner named 20s icon, Cecil Beaton, as his muse. Hair was deep-parted from left to right and half a tub of L'Oreal Professionals TECHNI.ART Fix Max gel was used to shape the finger waves which were dried into place using the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer.

My Little Pony hair
Hairstylist Justine Marjan teamed up with TRESemme to create the rainbow coloured My Little Pony hair backstage at Christian Siriano.
Pearl studded hair
Pearls continued to be popular at Jonathan Cohen were they were woven into braids.
Gem-flecked waves
Justine Marjan was behind the gem-flecked 90s style hair at Alice + Olivia.
70s disco fro
Hair at Christopher John Rogers was created by Naeemah LaFond who was inspired by topiary shapes.

OUT OUT hair
At Naeem Khan, OUT OUT New Year's Eve hair was created by adding sparkler-like accessories to sleek side-parted hair.
Modern vampire
Odile Gilbert worked with TRESemme to create the hair backstage at Rodarte where the inspiration was modern vampires. Hair was left mostly down and loosely waved, while a small section was pulled up into a top-knot to provide a base for the flower and veil to be attached.
Teddy boy fringe
At Anna Sui, the 50s teddy boy hairstyle was given a new spin by hairstylist, Garren.
