The next step in Beckham’s transformation into a blonde Adonis – the tan! The Beckham family packed up Beckingham Palace and hit Spain this year, as Becks signed to Real Madrid in a move that was no doubt helped by his increasingly strained relationship with Man Utd boss Alex Ferguson.

Becks rocked a small pony on the red carpet for the MTV Awards in LA. To be fair, the half-up, half-down look was a huge trend that season...on women. The term ‘metrosexual’ began kicking around, and Becks was hailed as the ultimate metrosexual thanks to his penchant for not just fanciful hair ‘dos, but jewellery, skirts and nail polish too. Things were definitely starting to look up for poor David by now; no longer the ‘villain’ of international football, the fans and the press alike had begun to forgive him for that World Cup incident. Feathered in leathers; A newly blonded and coiffed Becks had endured a difficult summer, during which he was sent off during the World Cup ’98 after that kick and became vilified by England supporters and the British press. David, keeping his chiselled chin up, concentrated on his impending marriage to Victoria and was fast becoming more famous for being part of a celebrity power couple than a footballer. ‘Posh & Becks’, as the press dubbed them, also gained a penchant for matching attire. This leather get-up is a classic.
