While we are loving the clean-eating food revolution and diet plans for all, enter now the new era of strength, killer curves and fitness, which is all about being our optimum, happiest selves and celebrating our natural body shapes. There is so much more to life than spending half of it in the gym, but here are the best work-out tips from the stars that we would actually follow.

When Scarlett Johansson was training for her role as the Black Widow in the Avengers films, Scarlett did a crazy amount of exercise, as she only had six weeks to get action star ready. Bobby Strom was her trainer and had her working on full body circuits. Each circuit would be set up with five different moves, including squats, lunges, lateral raises and medicine ball throw downs. She would work for 30 reps at each stop and move round the circuit 3 to 4 times.

Spindly model Kendall may seem as though she doesn’t have to do much to stay fit, but in reality, she hits the gym a lot. Trainer Gunner Peterson puts her through lots of squats, pull-ups, dead lifts and HIIT cardio training (think less sprinting, more burpees).

For her role as Harlequin in the Suicide Squad movie, Margot Robbie ditched the HIIT training for a pilates-based core routine with some ballet jumps and bends thrown in, her trainer Andie Hecker revealed.

Queen of reality TV Kim Kardashian is a big fan of Barry’s Bootcamp classes, as well as pilates and spinning at SoulCycle. "Khloé goes a lot and she really got me into it. Such a good sweat," she said.

Speaking to Shape magazine, Eva Mendes said she saw great results when she ditched her usual 30-45 minutes of cardio for interval training and weights. She works out three times a week for an hour, or five times ahead of a special event. “I don’t exercise more than that though, because I see better results when my body has a rest period," she said.

Selena’s trainer Aimee Rosoff Davis recently revealed the tricks she used to help the singer be her best self – and they are music to our ears. No dieting, no weighing, whole foods and plenty of variety. "I've always believed the best way to keep your muscles active is to mix it up,” she said. “We switch things up almost every day." Aimee also recommends plenty of stretching and yoga for a super-toned, flexible bod.

She starts her day with a walk, sets aside 15 minutes for a work-out using her own body strength in the middle, and ends with 15-30 minutes of stretching and yoga to wind down. Coupled with sensible eating that doesn’t deprive her of pizza, she’s living her best life, according to former trainer Dalton Wong.

Beyoncé hired fitness trainer Marco Borges ahead of her Formation tour in 2015. Her ultimate work-outs would include plenty of boxing and swinging weighted ropes. She is also a fan of HIIT cardio, alternating between sprinting on a treadmill for a minute, followed by walking for two minutes. The whole work-out takes 30 minutes.

Blake Lively’s advice? Keep it fun and mix it up. "I hate the gym. Who doesn't? When I'm in the gym I feel like I am missing out. So I would rather rent a bike or go for a hike," she told You. Meanwhile, her personal trainer Don Saladino emphasised the importance of a good night’s sleep and a diet of protein, vegetables and slow-release carbs.

Gunnar Peterson, the Sofia's personal trainer, recommends ditching isolation movements for compound movements instead. This means working two muscles groups at once – say, a squat with a bicep curl – instead of working those muscles with separate movements. This will save you time and burn more calories. “If we're going to do a lunge, we're probably going to add an upper body component to it, like a lunge with a wood chop, a side lunge with a wood chop,” he told Shape magazine.
