The 39-year-old actress sat down with creator Joss Whedon and the majority of her former costars — including David Boreanaz (Angel), James Marsters (Spike), Alyson Hannigan (Willow) and Seth Green (Oz) — to chat about the Scooby gang and reminisce about the show which catapulted them all to fame.

"I think it was the ultimate metaphor," the actress told EW of the show. "It was utilising the horrors of adolescence, manifested through these actual monsters, and I think that everyone going through that, that is the hardest time of life. And to understand that you're not alone in that."

Alyson Hannigan (who played Buffy's bff) said: "It was just a gift of an acting job. It was the role of a lifetime."

David Boreanaz, 47, agreed: "[We had] incredible people that were a part of it that pushed us all forward and made a story of something that was so small, but became so big."

The Writer/Producer Joss Whedon said: "This is surreal. This is like a high school reunion, but much worse because they all still look really great. You were hoping that some of them would puff out a bit so you can be the cool one, but that did not take place."

Michelle Trachtenberg, who played Buffy's sister Dawn, posted a selfie captioning it: "#bts #selfie at the secret #buffythevampireslayer 20th #anniversary #reunion photo shoot for @entertainmentweekly. I was 14 when I joined the show, and now I'm 31, older than @sarahmgellar was when she started the show. Did I just blow your minds? Thanks to #josswhedon for casting me as #dawn, the force of energy who was the key to mankind's survival (no big). I learned so much from Sarah and the cast. I learned from Joss how powerful words can be, how meaningful and influential fictional TV characters can be to the audience. As an actress I'm grateful to have brought Dawn to life. As a writer, I learned from some of the best brains in town how to make something so fantastical seem so real. As I like to say. It's all make believe, and it's my job to make YOU #believe. ⚰❤️"
