This British version of Netflix is going to be our new addiction
What with ITV's new thriller Cheat , the new season of BBC3's cult series Killing Eve and Channel's 4's addictive new show Traitors all coming to our screens soon, it's safe to say we've been been planning in a LOT of TV time over the next month.
We predict a helluva lot more duvet days on the horizon though, thanks to the BBC and ITV who are teaming up to release a brand new streaming platform called BritBox.
In a launch statement, the broadcasters announced their plans to
provide paying viewers with the "biggest collection of British content available on any streaming service" by the end of the year.
The platform, which has been heralded as the UK's rival to Netflix, will look to commission original content from British production companies, as well as featuring a catalogue of classic programmes from both networks.
"The BBC and ITV are in the concluding phase of talks to establish a strategic partnership to bring an exciting new streaming service to UK audiences.
"BritBox would be an original streaming service providing an unrivalled collection of British boxsets and original series, on demand, all in one place and would provide the biggest collection of British content available on any streaming service and brand new commissions for British production companies specifically created for BritBox."
The service is already underway in the US and Canada, with 500,000 subscribers signed up to watch British boxsets and exclusive original TV.
There's no word on pricing as of yet, but BBC director general Tony Hall has confirmed that BritBox will be "competitive", while there'll also be a free seven-day trial before starting your subscription.
