The best wedding dresses from the movies & the ultimate TV weddings

Sometimes magazines and wedding fairs just don't provide you with the bridal inspiration you're after. That's where this lot come in. Presenting our favourite wedding dresses from movies and the magical world of TV. Oh, the memories!
normancook/InstagramThe Big Bang Theory (2016)
Penny (played by Kaley Cuoco) from The Big Bang Theory has finally married Leonard.
For the big day, Penny opted for a wedding dress by Adrianna Papell. The embroidered fit and flare dress falls just above the knee. Gorgeous. She teamed her dress with a pair of white pointy flat shoes.
FlynetOur Girl (2016)
She's already a married woman, but Michelle Keegan is back in a wedding dress just a week before her one year wedding anniversary to Mark Wright.
The former Coronation Street star was photographed in Manchester shooting a wedding scene at the town hall for the forthcoming BBC drama Our Girl.
Rex FeaturesFather Of The Bride (1950)
In the original Father Of The Bride movie, Elizabeth Taylor was the epitome of bygone Hollywood glamour and sophistication. With a lace V and tuxedo style front blended with swathes of sumptuous satin, this is one stunning dress that has easily stood the test of time.
Rex FeaturesFather Of The Bride (1991)
Fast forward to 1991, and here we have Steve Martin and his stunning daughter Annie Banks. Annie's dress definitely pays homage to the big screen original, featuring the same exquisite satin and delicate lace detailing on the bodice, but with a much softer/less structured overall aesthetic.
Rex FeaturesBride Wars (2009)
Despite the lead characters' continual spats and bridal rivalry throughout the film, nothing could take away from their glorious big day gowns. Whether it's strapless and frothy or structured and off-the shoulder you're after, these beautiful dresses are inspiration indeed.
Getty ImagesDesperate Housewives (season three)
Despite the ill-fated nature of Gabrielle Solis’ second marriage to politician Victor Lang(she overhears him tell his father that he only married her so that he could win the Latino vote), Gabrielle looked picture-perfect for her big day in an OTT textured gown with exaggerated boning detail. The icing on the cake? The beautiful updo complete with jewelled hairpiece and flowing veil.
Rex FeaturesAnna Karenina (2012)
Sumptuous, regal, lavish - all words that go some way to describing the beautiful nature of Keira Knightley's dress and head gear in Anna Karenina.
Rex FeaturesBrokeback Mountain (2005)
If vintage dressing is what you have in mind for your big day, Alma's lace confection might be right up your fashion street. It's like something you'd seen in an old black and white family photograph... Sartorial nostalgia at its finest.
NBC via Getty ImagesFriends (season seven)
We cried tears of happy joy when Monica and Chandler finally said ‘I do’ in season seven of Friends. Monica looked stunning in a simple white fishtail dress with an elegant veil and a posy of dark red roses. It’s a classic look that will never go out of fashion.
NBC via Getty ImagesFriends (season four)
"The One With All The Wedding Dresses" Friends episode might be full of hilarity, however the dresses themselves are pretty darn cute. Definitely lose Monica's lampshade-esque headpiece though.
WennGossip Girl (season six)
If white or cream is not what you have in mind for your big day, make like Blair Waldorf and go for something completely different (and individual). We love the 1920s feel to Blair's embellished Elie Saab gown, complete with ornate headpiece. Chuck Bass is one lucky guy.
Rex FeaturesNeighbours (1997)
Remember this? When Scott and Charlene tied the knot in Neighbours back in 1987 we cried bucketloads into our school tie as mum served up dinner. As for the dress, if oversized lace numbers are your thing, this is your cut-out-and-keep inspiration.
Rex FeaturesLove Actually (2003)
Keira takes up the bridal mantle again in noughties Brit feelgood rom-com Love Actually, this time in a sheer, long-sleeved sheath of a gown with feathery neckline and matching headpiece. It's not your average gown, but we can't help but like it.
Rex FeaturesMamma Mia (2008)
For her Greek island wedding, Amanda Seyfried's character Sophie went all out on the dress front (layer upon layer on fabric). Thinking of having a destination wedding? We recommend a simple column gown, complete with loose, flowing veil and a foral headdress, just like Sophie's.
Rex FeaturesMelancholia (2011)
We're head over heels for Justine's totally elegant gown in Melancholia. Kirsten Dunst is a vision in the dramatic layered chiffon gown created by the film's costume designer Manon Rasmussen. A society bridal gown if ever we've seen one.
Rex FeaturesMy Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)
Much like the film's title, lead character Toula's dress was anything but small or subtle. The ultimate movie meringue - and did we mention those lace gloves? Madonna would be so proud.
Rex FeaturesRomeo & Juliet (1996)
In the modern day Baz Luhrmann version of the Shakespearean classic, Claire Danes (as Juliet) looked picture perfect in a simple silk gown with covered button detail. Simply stunning.
Rex FeaturesThe Sound of Music (1965)
Maria really pulled out all the stops when it came to the dress she'd marry Captain Von Trapp in. It's very of its time - high collared, full skirted and long sleeved. The stiff, formal satin makes this gown a real show-stopping big day creation.
Rex FeaturesSex And the City: The Movie (2008)
Although Carrie Bradshaw didn't actually make it past the entrance stairs on her first attempt at marrying Mr Big, the dress she donned for the occasion was of stop-'em-in-their-tracks proportions. The sharp lines won't be to everyone's taste (nor will the bird headpiece) but there's no denying that this Vivienne Westwood design is something out of a fairytale.
Rex FeaturesSex And The City (season three )
Being the Park Avenue princess that she is, when Charlotte York marries Trey MacDougal in season three of Sex And The City, the dress is, of course, simple yet spectacular....
Rex FeaturesSex And The City (season three )
Picture perfect, don't you agree? Shame it didn't last. #TeamHarry
Rex FeaturesSteel Magnolias (1989)
Julia Roberts' character Shelby was the talk of the town in her big day gown. Yes, it's the eighties and yes, that hair is something else, but we can't help but heart this thoroughly nostalgic bridal concotion.
Rex FeaturesThe Notebook (2004)
This is quite possibly one of our favourite bridal looks from the movies. Playing Allie in The Notebook, Rachel McAdams is a retro beauty in this lace gauze gown complete with tumbling raven waves and hot red lips. Add in a swirling veil and a delicate floral headpiece and you have the recipe for big day success.
