Our favourite bit? Each character has their own distinct style – from Serena’s sex bomb body-con dresses to Chuck’s foppish scarves.

Carrie’s fabulous (if unrealistic: how does a one-column-a-week writer afford all that Dior?) style gave us weekly wardrobe envy, unofficially introduced Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin to the rest of the world and brought us the oversized corsage, the nameplate necklace and the tutu. Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha didn’t do too badly either.

The Style: While the school’s Cheerios strut around in their itsy bitsy uniforms, Lea Michele’s character Rachel revives the preppy, all-American look: crew neck sweaters, long socks and kilts. And don’t even get us started on how wonderfully twee guidance counsellor Emma’s outfits are...

The Story: The houses, the cars, the designer wardrobes – we got a week by week dose of the green-eyed monster as the worlds of a bunch of super-wealthy folk in southern California were turned upside down by the arrival of a kid ‘from the wrong side of the tracks’.
The Style: BFFs Marissa and Summer worked SoCal style in beach-ready vest tops and shorts by day and Chanel party dresses by night, while one-time couple Seth and Anna were the king and queen of TV geek chic.

The Story: 8 years after the original series ended, the world’s most famous postcode made a comeback with a host of new (and predictably loaded) characters - and some old familiar faces – set to attend West Beverly Hills High School.
The Style: ...is a mish-mash of everything you’d expect to see on an LA red carpet. We’re talking Hervé Leger dresses (queen bee Naomi), floral prints (wholesome Annie), pretty prom dresses (drama wannabe Adrianna) and fierce wet-look pieces (punky Silver).

Starring: Whitney Port, Olivia Palermo, Roxy Olin
The Story: ‘Reality’ show The City follows The Hills alum Whitney Port, who’s come a long way from her days in the Teen Vogue fashion closet – she moves to New York, bags a job at Diane Von Furstenberg, then leaves to join old pal Kelly Cutrone at fashion PR company People’s Revolution and concentrate on designing her own line.
The Style: Whitney’s wardrobe is a lot more covetable than her Hills stuff (anyone who remembers her first day at Teen Vogue will know what we’re talking about!), but it’s her nemesis Olivia Palermo whose looks really get us drooling. The queen of mixing androgyny with über-prettiness, the socialite and Elle staffer matches designer goodies with Zara finds and expertly chosen accessories.

The Story: America Ferrera is Betty Suarez from Queens, a sartorially-challenged 20-something who lands a job at New York’s biggest fashion magazine, Mode.
The Style: Betty’s braces aside, she became an unexpected style icon which left us (and designers like Marc Jacobs) hankering for the return of geeky, oversized specs and clashing neon prints. And while traditionalists ogled evil creative director Wilhelmina’s working wardrobe, Amanda nailed the sexy secretary look with a quirky fashion twist.

The Story: The original US teen drama to the children of the 80s, Saved By The Bell centred around the classmates of Bayside High School: Zack, Kelly, Lisa, Screech, Jessie and AC Slater.
The Style: No it’s not a joke: those 80s outfits are the reference point for plenty of recent trends - high-waisted denim or checked shirts anyone? Plus, if you’re in your twenties, chances are you’ll have wanted to be Kelly at some point, will have donned a jumpsuit just like Lisa’s and will definitely remember those rainbow-coloured Nike hi-tops from the first time around.

The Story: Okay, so the show is really all about the search for this year’s inevitable Christmas number 1 (sorry, Joe McElderry), but when we tune in this autumn, it’ll be Dannii and Cheryl’s judging outfits holding the GLAMOUR.COM girls’ attention.
The Style: Cheryl ditched her WAG image and hired herself two stylists when she scored the judging job in series 5, sporting perfect party dresses and dramatic floor length numbers from the likes of Alexander McQueen, Marios Schwab, Atelier Versace and Giles – which firmly cemented her rising style star status. And, as Cheryl upped her game, so did Dannii, with a gorgeous new crop and equally gorgeous gowns.

The Style: Whatever every achingly cool teenager is wearing these days. The series’ fashion changes as quickly as it does on the street, but the troubled Effy from Series 3 and 4 had the best looks we reckon – gothy leathers, whole pencils of kohl lining her eyes and grungy ripped jeans and jumpers.

The Story: Star of MTV’s Laguna Beach docudrama, Lauren ‘LC’ Conrad makes her way to Los Angeles, launching her fashion career by interning at Teen Vogue and finding chums Heidi, Whitney and Audrina. What follows is plenty of tantrums, tears, screaming matches and boy troubles.
The Style: The girls got off to a rocky start, but by the end of series 5 (and Lauren’s departure), they were groomed to perfection and toting their designer purchases all over town. And while Heidi’s glam-over didn’t do it for us, Lauren’s Hepburn-inspired brand of prim and pretty got a big thumbs up.

The Story: A bunch of celebs partner up with professional dancers, perform ballroom dance numbers on Saturday night’s show, then –according to how twinkling their toes were - potentially get booted off on Sunday.
The Style: Glitter, sequins, ruffles, lace: this is theatrical style at its best. True, you won’t be wearing these tango dresses at your local, but it’s mesmerising to look at all the same.

The Story: A private investigator’s firm, headed by the mysterious Charlie, hires three kick ass ladies – the Angels – to go undercover and bust some crime.
The Style: The show was a stage for all the biggest trends of the 70s – hu-uge flares, Farrah Fawcett’s famous flicks and platform boots. And, since the decade is making a massive comeback for next spring, it’s time to get those notebooks out, ladies.
