All of the 2023 Golden Globes snubs
Whether you like it or not, awards season is here. And whether you like it or not, the Golden Globes, which were briefly blacklisted, are back…or at least they’re trying to be back. The nominations for the 2023 ceremony were announced on Monday 12 December, and as ever, there are plenty of Golden Globes snubs to complain about. The 80th Golden Globe Awards will honor film and American television of 2022, as chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The ceremony, hosted by Jerrod Carmichael, will take place on 10 January 2023, at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills.
A lot of worthy performances were not recognised, including several from HBO’s House of the Dragon and The White Lotus. And in a classic Golden Globes/awards show move, no women were nominated in the directing category.
Here are some of the most glaring Golden Globes snubs:
Fabio Lovino/HBOMeghann Fahy, The White Lotus
Although several of her castmates received nominations, including Aubrey Plaza, Jennifer Coolidge, and F. Murray Abraham, Fahy, who as Daphne was a fan favourite and an undeniable star, did not get a nomination.

Palmer’s in-depth performance in Nope was everything—it had drama and emotional stakes but was at the same time extremely funny.

Female Directors
Once again, the list of people nominated for best director is made up entirely of men. In 2022 there were plenty of significant films directed by women including:

Matt Smith, House of the Dragon
As the mysterious and violent Daemon Targaryen, Smith somehow became the internet’s boyfriend. That alone does not qualify an actor for a Golden Globe nomination, but perhaps it should.

Olivia Cooke, House of the Dragon
Cooke played Queen Alicent Hightower (as an adult) on the Westeros-set HBO drama and delivered a powerful and emotional performance, particularly in the penultimate episode. Her costar Emma D'Arcy was nominated, but Cooke was not. Anyway, time for a negroni sbagliato (with prosecco).

Jennifer Lawrence, Causeway
Oscar winner J.Law made her very welcome return to cinema with an incredible performance in the drama Causeway, but the Golden Globes apparently did not think it was incredible enough to nominate.

Paddy Considine, House of the Dragon
Considine played King Viserys I, the monarch who progressively fell apart (literally and figuratively) throughout season one of the show.

Performances in action movies rarely get recognition for any major awards, but Tom Cruise’s performance in the Top Gun sequel could have changed that. Cruise missed out on a Golden Globe nomination, but there’s still the Oscars.

Rhea Seehorn, Better Call Saul
For six seasons, Seehorn delivered one of the best performances on television as the diligent but slightly mischievous Kim Wexler. She should just be handed a Globe without question but didn’t even get nominated.
