Want to dance like Beyonce? Head to Gap for a Beyonce dance masterclass!
So, how did Seen On Screen start? Having worked in the entertainment industry, and teaching at London’s top dance studios, Bonnie Parsons saw a gap in the market. She wanted to make the top professional dancers (regularly seen on screen performing with the biggest stars in the world) available to people everywhere, helping women find a form of exercise they love.
We spoke to the CEO and founder about why she came up with the awesome idea, her famous clients and why she has joined forces with Gap to bring dancing to the masses.
Someone from Gap watched SOS class videos on Instagram and they said 'OMG, we have to get them to do classes for us!'... and as you can imagine, that made my day! The GapFit collection is the perfect partner to an SOS workout - the leggings hug your curves allowing you to move freely with each shimmy, and the tops give you a great silhouette (and are completely breathable)it will certainly make you want to get yourself down to a class to shake your stuff!
The best part to my job is seeing my company grow in the way SOS has. We started five years ago with a monthly pop up workshop. Two or three people attended (we regularly have a laugh about that!) so it's crazy to think that from humble beginnings we have now taught thousands of people. I would honestly pay to do what I do, so to be able to build a career around dance, while helping people in the process, is an amazing feeling.
It's inevitable as an entrepreneur you will make mistakes and when you do, you have to fix them as quickly as possible so I think the responsibility or pressure of building and running a successful business can be very challenging. But honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way!
They sure are! We have a team of 15 instructors who are the best backing dancers in the entertainment industry. They've worked with Beyoncé, Rihanna, Little Mix, Zara Larsson and at events including The BRIT Awards, The X Factor and the Victoria’s Secret Show amongst many others!
To me, being cool is about doing you, and owning who you are. I could teach you the coolest dance moves in the world but what makes someone cool is confidence in who they are - flaws and all! I always say, don't dance like the girl next to you - just be yourself and have fun. The rest will be history!
Being the director of Seen On Screen means I live in my fitness clothes so I buy my dance pieces from brands that will take me from a meeting to the dance studio. The GapFit collection is great as their pieces fit my lifestyle. I LOVE the mesh leggings. They are super soft, come in loads of different styles, and have great stretch which helps support my range of motion... very cool. There are also tonnes of different styles of tops that are ideal for layering in the studio – perfect for keeping warm before working up a sweat!
And what can the Glamour reader expect from the Seen on Screen workshops taking place on 30th and 31st January?
It will be a Beyoncé dance class so expect the perfect combination of sass and class! At Gap x SoS, you'll do things with your body you didn't think were possible! We have a term (that I got from Beyoncé's choreographer) called sophisticated filth because you can be sexy, powerful and totally in control of your body with a sense of skill and sophistication, which is such an empowering thing. I want every woman to know what this feels like so you'll be learning from your very first class!
Absolutely! I have seen people transform at SOS. If you have low confidence or self esteem, it can work wonders for you. A lot of students come to SOS feeling shy, or even nervous if it's their first class so if you feel this way, it's totally normal!
The key to building confidence is setting yourself little goals and achieving them. Start small and build it up. You'll be amazed what we can teach you in 60 minutes... so if you can dance a Beyoncé routine start to finish (mistakes are ok!) and feel fabulous doing it, it isn't long until you start to think, ‘well if I can do that, what else can I achieve?’
You can join in with the Seen On Screen dance class in Gap’s London flagship store located within the GapFit area on Monday 30 January at 6.15pm and 7.15pm, and Tuesday 31 January at 6.15pm and 7.15pm.
