We’re calling it, this new leave-in conditioner is set to achieve cult status

If you’re familiar with combing through tangled ends, longing for shinier lengths, and hair that falls flat and frazzled as soon as you step out the door, then you’ve likely gone through a fair few bottles of leave-in conditioner in your time. So, you’ll also know that no leave-in conditioner is created equal – some promise instant hydration; but just leave our hair looking oily and weighed down with product.

Couple that with our beauty expertise on the GLAMOUR team, and those of us with dry, damaged and thirsty hair are pretty difficult to impress when it comes to nourishing hair products. So, when the brand new Aussie Super Serum landed on our desks, promising 100 hours of deep moisture*, we were intrigued.

Aussie is a brand most of us already associate with moisturising hair treatments, offering a widely-loved range of products designed for all steps in our haircare routine (were you even a teenager in the Noughties if you didn’t have a bottle of 3 Minute Miracle on your bathroom shelf?). In fact, they’re the number-one conditioning treatment brand in the UK**, according to 2024 buying data.

The new Super Serum – an all-in-one treatment to moisturise, smooth, soften and detangle hair while preventing split ends and boosting shine – is building on Aussie’s long-standing expertise in moisture. The feather-light texture turns from a silky cream to liquid moisture on application, meaning hair isn’t left heavy or weighed down. Apply to towel-dried hair or simply run a drop through thirsty strands for a between-washes pick-me-up.

As good as it sounds, does the Super Serum really live up to Aussie’s legacy? Five GLAMOUR staffers with different hair types, all crying out for some TLC, put it to the test. Here are their honest thoughts…

Aussie Super Serum Review Is The New LeaveIn Conditioner For Dry Hair Worth The Hype

Rating: 10/10

I’ve been colour-treating and bleaching my hair for pretty much half my lifetime, so with strands prone to damage, dryness, and ends with more splits than an episode of Love Island, I know what makes a good deep-conditioning hair serum for dry hair. So, when the new Aussie Super Serum landed on my desk, promising 100 hours of moisture in seconds, I was sceptical. How wrong I was.

Running the serum through my damp, towel-dried hair, the first thing I noticed – apart from how amazing it smelt – was how lightweight the product was. Often with leave-in conditioners, the more nourishing the formula, the more it weighs your hair down. But this featherweight formula, which melts from a smoothing cream into a liquid, instantly soaked into my hair without dragging it down. Next, was the silky smoothness. I blow-dried my hair as normal, which is usually a battle of detangling and de-poofing, but the Super Serum left my hair smooth, shiny and knot-free. I was seriously impressed. The silky-soft feeling lasted until my next hair wash two days later, and now, it’s a staple in my post-wash haircare routine. I also run a small, coin-size amount through my ends if they need a little pick-me-up between washes. I very rarely rate a product 10/10, but in my opinion, this stuff deserves it.

I’m a sucker for a leave-in conditioner. I’ve been on a dry-to-shine hair journey for a while now and truly credit leave-in treatments to an improvement in my hair’s health. I’m into low-maintenance but hardworking products, and that’s exactly what they are. Running some conditioner through your hair takes no time, but they’ll continue to work long after your post-shower routine to keep your hair glistening. So, Aussie promising 100 hours of hydration in seconds with their new Super Serum? I had to give it a go, natch.

You can apply the Super Serum to damp or dry hair. Personally, I prefer to use it on dry hair, usually as I’m running out the door – it’s a finishing touch. I was surprised to find it’s formulated in a silky cream but transforms to liquid within seconds, making it much lighter than a traditional conditioner. It provides an instant shine when run through the lengths of my hair. The best thing is that it keeps my hair moisturised and feeling softer throughout the day so it’s an easy way to keep your hair looking fresh in between washes. I know, I know, a good hair day isn’t everything, but I always feel more put-together and confident on days when my hair is at its best, and the Super Serum definitely gives my hair the love it needs to do that.

As seasons change my hair tends to get super dry and the new Aussie Super Serum has really quenched my hair thirst. Firstly, I love a leave-in conditioner, but I love even more that this serum melts into a liquid when you squeeze onto your hands, making the application process a breeze. For my dry and thick hair it also means I’m not there all day. Pretty much from the first application I saw a difference, my hair drank it like liquid gold - savouring every bit.

The moisture was thorough and not just surface level. After a few days I needed a little less each time I applied, which was a hair miracle if I ever saw one. The best thing is with such a busy schedule I love that I can apply it and head out of the door but the magic doesn’t stop working there.

I regularly use a leave-in, so I was keen to try the Super Serum. On first impression, it’s lightweight and turns to liquid as you warm it in your hands so it feels more akin to a hyaluronic acid face serum than hair serum and the play on hydration is clear. The liquid texture made it easy to work through my fine hair, although I wanted slightly more than the recommended coin size drop to apply all over. I skipped my usual blow dry spray, but was pleasantly surprised that blow drying was no less easy and my hair was left feeling light, bouncy, soft and with a glossy sheen. I doubled up and applied the serum again to dry ends to seal and protect. Altogether this serum is simple to use and makes fast work of fuss free styling for my hair texture, it also works well on air dry days to minimise static and flyaways. When creating a heat set style, I’d layer with styling products with more hold. Overall it’s a keeper.

Aussie Super Serum Review Is The New LeaveIn Conditioner For Dry Hair Worth The Hype

The Aussie Super Shine Serum is a promising addition to your hair care lineup, especially if you're after a quick fix for hydration and a boost in shine. As someone with naturally curly hair prone to dryness and frizz, I was intrigued by its potential to address multiple hair concerns in one go. When applied on damp hair during my wash routine, it delivered good results, leaving my curls soft and noticeably shinier.

However, its performance on the go was less impressive. My voluminous curls seemed a bit too much for its watery consistency to handle, leaving my curls looking a little damp and wanting more in terms of frizz control, definition and a glossy moisturised look.

While it certainly excels in adding shine and providing a soft touch to the hair, it left my demandingly dry and unruly mane wanting more. I will definitely call on this product for a quick shine boost during my everyday hair care routine. But to tame my frizz and keep my curls quenched and defined, I'd need to compliment this serum with a stronger and more targeted product.
