Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have decided to cut their streak of public date nights short with no red carpet debut at the VMAs 2024.
Following memorable outings at the US Open, paparazzi-laden dinners in Brooklyn and Manhattan, and Swift's attendance at the Chiefs home opener in Kansas City, it was expected that the pair would venture out to UBS Arena for the MTV Video Music Awards to celebrate another year of multiple nominations for Swift. She leads this year's VMAs nominations and is up for 12 awards, including Video of the Year ("Fortnight"), Artist of the Year, and Best Pop.
I'm pretty damn happy with my life, too, thank you very much.

Many believed this awards show would be the couple's first together, as it held the buzzy possibility (see: promise) of a record-breaking night for Swift. The singer won Video of the Year, her fifth win, making her the first artist to win five times total and the first to do it three times in a row. She has previously won for “Bad Blood,” “You Need to Calm Down,” “All Too Well: The Short Film,” and “Anti-Hero.”
Swift thanked Kelce directly during her acceptance speech for Video of the Year, expressing her gratitude for him continuously cheering her on during the filming of “Fortnight.” “That one person [cheering] was my boyfriend, Travis,” Swift said to raucous applause. "Everything this man touches turns to happiness and fun and magic, so I want to thank him for adding that to our shoot.”

It would have been the first time that Swift has taken a boyfriend as a date to an awards show celebrating her accomplishments — though, she did attend the 2019 Golden Globes with Joe Alwyn. During the VMAs, all eyes were naturally on Swift as she danced along, as she is famous to do, to performers like Katy Perry, Karol G, Sabrina Carpenter, and Eminem.

Prior to the VMAs, Travis Kelce shared some words of encouragement for Taylor Swift while on the New Heights podcast he hosts with his brother Jason Kelce. “Hopefully Taylor can walk away with a few, she’s nominated for about ten of those things tonight,” Kelce said. “Hopefully she can walk away with some moon men. Those are always one of the cooler trophies. The space guys.”
Jason Kelce echoed, "Let’s go Tay, come on Tay!” “Stay on top,” Travis Kelce added. “Wishing everybody the best though.”
“I didn’t have to do much for it to be a success.”
The night also came during a big week for Swift, who endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as her 2024 presidential candidate choice late Tuesday night, Sept. 10. “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” she wrote on Instagram. "I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”
She signed the letter, “Childless Cat Lady.”
