The Teacher has returned to Channel 5 for a second season, featuring an entirely new cast and separate standalone plot from the original 2022 series.
This season of The Teacher focuses on the story of Dani (Kara Tointon), an art teacher beloved by her students though grappling with an unfulfilling marriage. After starting up an affair with fellow teacher Jimmy (Will Mellor), this quickly escalates on a school trip.
It's during time unsupervised that a student goes missing, with Dani finding herself lying about her whereabouts to prioritise her marriage over justice, though with the guilt consuming her and ultimately forcing her to come to terms with her own dark secrets.
Though filming for season 1 of The Teacher took place in Budapest (despite being set in Bradford), filming for the second season was took place much closer to home.
So exactly where is The Teacher filmed? Here's everything to know about the show's season 2 filming locations.
Where was The Teacher season 2 filmed?
Much of The Teacher season 2 was filmed in Lough Dan in County Wicklow, Ireland.
Speaking on the filming locations for the series to Radio Times, Will Mellor said: "We had some fantastic locations. Shooting at Lough Dan in Co Wicklow there was beautiful scenery to work in. It's where they shot Vikings... It was a stunning location."
He explains that the “wooded area” where the series was filmed was privately owned, with the crew filming all the camping scenes there for four or five days.
Naturally, Ireland isn't particularly known for its good weather, with Mellor adding: "We had a bit of a challenging time with the weather. The weather could come in at any point and we had a lot of stuff to do.”
Season 2 lead Kara Tointon also filmed for other Channel 5 drama Too Good to be True in Ireland, adding: “I have been so lucky over the past couple of years being able to soak up what Ireland has got to offer.”
On Lough Dan specifically, she described the location as “just incredible”, saying: "We couldn't believe our luck. It was stunning, the woodlands. It definitely gives you an appreciation for nature.”
The Teacher season 1 filming locations
Though season 1 of the series was set in Bradford, a city in West Yorkshire, filming actually took place in Hungary over a six week period.
Speaking to Wales Online, the show's executive producer Mike Benson explained that filming in the country was done due to budget. “We had to film in Budapest for funding reasons, and the team has done a fantastic job making it look like Bradford.”
He added, "It was challenging and at times felt like a pressure cooker given the Covid restrictions limited how much cast and crew could socialise and relax together. There were points when I didn't think we would get through it, but fortunately we had a really professional team and a really good COVID officer, and we managed it."
Season 1 star Sheridan Smith shared a similar sentiment, explaining that post-lockdown the actors unsurprisingly found the flight “nerve-racking”. “It had been two years since we had taken a plane anywhere. But once we got to Budapest all the anxiety went away, and it was a lovely job,” she said.
