Baby Reindeer is officially a run-away word-of-mouth hit for Netflix. The gripping drama is based on the true story of Richard Gadd's encounters with a female stalker and has been widely praised for its psychological nuance and sharp script.
Martha was a victim, not a culprit, according to Richard Gadd.
The show follows Donny (Gadd), a struggling comedian who meets Martha, a lonely woman, at the bar where he works. After the pair strike up an unlikely flirty friendship, things take a sinister turn when Martha begins stalking Donny — she shows up at his work, at his home, in his neighbourhood, and, before long, begins sending him thousands of emails, texts and voicemails. She calls him “baby reindeer”.
The show was filmed between August 2022 and March 2023 in Edinburgh and London, where it is set. You might even have recognised a few of the locations in the show.

London
Much of Baby Reindeer was filmed on location in the capital. You might spot one location as Brockwell Park, which is located in South East London. Some scenes were also filmed on Cambalt Road in Putney.
The pub where Donny works, ‘The Heart’, is a fictional pub in Camden – but one particularly memorable scene between Donny and Martha was filmed on what looks like Regent's Canal, which passes through Camden Town.

According to the Location Collective, an organisation that helps connect productions with filming locations, the show was also shot at recognisable London spots like Shoreditch Town Hall, Purley Oaks, Peckham Liberal Club and Greenwich Magistrates’ Court.

Edinburgh
Donny spends some time in Edinburgh performing at the famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival. You may have spotted an iconic street known as Grassmarket, famed for its views of the city's castle and its colourful architecture. The iconic Royal Mile, another ancient Edinburgh street, also appeared on the show. As anyone who has ever been to the Edinburgh Festival knows, these are two hotspots for performers.
The Hoppy in Meadowbank also served as the exterior of a pub. “Towards the end of lockdown we were lucky enough to have been asked by Netflix to use The Hoppy exterior in the brand new Netflix series Baby Reindeer,” wrote the pub on Facebook. Apparently, the pub was used as the Fringe venue where Donny performs during his time at the festival.
