Do women actually fancy dadbods?

What is a dadbod, we hear you cry? It's a term that's been around for a while, but has been bandied about a lot of late especially over the bank holiday weekend.

It refers to an allegedly desirable male physique that we women just go nuts for - a slightly podgy, cuddly guy who could have once been athletic but has been comfortable enough with himself to eat pizza and glug a lot of beer over the years. Case in point are Leonardo DiCaprio, Jason Segal and Paul Rudd - men who are not overweight, but who are not ripped like Hugh Jackman either. A man with a dadbod might go the gym, but he certainly doesn't spend his life there.

Apparently, the reason we love dadbods is because they don't threaten us, they make us feel like the pretty one, they give good eats, they're better at cuddling and it gives us a good idea of what's in store in years to come - this is all according to the Odyssey Online , who published an article on the body type which tried to explain women's attraction to such men. There is now even an Instagram page starring "sexy" dadbods.

Our brothers at GQ , have already decided this idea is "bullshit" and frankly we're inclined to agree. We won't even get started on the hypocrisy of what happens when women develop a comforting coat of insulation as we get older (the message here is that women let themselves go, men are just comfortable and happy with themselves). Instead we refer to GLAMOUR's Sexiest Men of the Year poll, in which you, the public, vote for which men you fancy most.

This year 80,000 of you took the time to vote and there wasn't a dadbod in sight. In first place came Jamie Dornan - let us just have a look at this fine looking man below in all his chiselled, honed glory.

Second came Benedict Cumberbatch, who may not be as ripped as Dornan but is still discreetly muscular.

Third was Tom Hiddleston, who looks as if he's fit enough to have been playing polo since he was an embryo.

Fourth came Robert Pattinson, who we still fancy even after all these years. Far from having a dadbod, he's toned, verging on skinny.

Rob started modelling at the age of 12 but despite his initial flurry of work, the actor admitted it dried up as he got older. “I had the most unsuccessful modelling career.” What? Were the casting agents blind?PA Photos

Number five came by way of Henry Cavill, aka SUPERMAN. No further explanation needed.

We're not saying that men with dadbods aren't sexy, nor that men should have to conform to any body type - after all, for most women attractiveness comes from, breaking news: a sense of humour, intelligence and kindness. Having a dadbod, ripped abs or biceps like Popeye alone will not make us more likely to have sex with you; being a great person that's fun to be around and makes us feel happy and good about ourselves will.

However, we won't be told that we don't fancy David Beckham, Chris Hemsworth or Jamie Dornan - 80,000 of you have spoken. Case closed.
