Last night saw the first of three debates between US Presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

Overnight it all kicked off and us Brits awoke to the news that a CNN/ORC poll had found 62% felt Clinton had 'won' opposed to 27% for Trump.

Ironically, Clinton was not the one to sound unwell. Twitter users quickly began to notice Trump's excessive loud sniffing, a fact made even funnier by the claims by Trump that his microphone was not working properly.

Trump was forced into defense mode

Hillary called Trump out on his racist, sexist language and behaviour, which instantly put the Republican on the defensive.

In one of her strongest blows, Clinton commented:

"This is a man who has called women pigs, slobs and dogs, and someone who has said pregnancy is an inconvenience to employers, who has said women don't deserve equal pay unless they do as good a job as men."

The big tax debate

The discussion quickly turned to Trump's refusal to release his tax records.

"I think probably he's not all that enthusiastic about having the rest of our country see what the real reasons are, because it must be something really important, even terrible, that he's trying to hide," Clinton argued.
