Science reveals unicorns existed (YAY) but were not as pretty as we hoped

You know when people (usually pre-teen) wear those slogan T-shirts that say "unicorns are real"? Well they can now wear them with happy abandon in the knowledge that they aren't just wearing a whimsical, fun slogan but rather ACTUAL SCIENTIFIC, ARCHAEOLOGICALLY PROVEN FACT. Who said the youth of today aren't sciencey?

A skull - found in the Pavlodar region of Kazakhstan - which was remarkably well preserved, proves the existence of the Siberian unicorn.

When researchers from Tomsk State University had a look at the skull, complete with that all important unicorn horn fixed in the centre of the head, they dated it at 29,000 years old - remarkably less time than they could have ever imagined.

How exciting - it proves we're closer to the fantasy creature than we first thought. There's one big, ugly, crushing catch though: they didn't look like the pink curly-haired My Little Pony lookalike unicorns we see in childrens book or on our emoji keyboard, but instead they will have looked like this...

THIS is a Siberian unicorn. Christ. According to a mixture of research and early descriptions, the Siberian unicorn was roughly 2 metres tall, 4.5 metres long, and weighed about 4 tonnes.

Who are we kidding - it's a glorified rhino, right? We're going to stick to our story book image...
