The theme of Lady Gaga's Olympics Opening Ceremony look? Feathers

"I wanted nothing more than to create a performance that would warm the heart of France, celebrate French art and music, and on such a momentous occasion remind everyone of one of the most magical cities on earth—Paris.”

Lady Gaga isn't necessarily the first person you think of when you think “Olympics Opening Ceremony in Paris, France," but that made her feather-bedecked performance all the more fun!

Mother Monster performed “Mon Truc en Plumes” looking Parisian chic with pulled-back platinum blonde hair, bleached brows, and glamorous red lips – AKA the signature Lady Gaga glam, enhanced by lots and lots (and lots!) of feathers.

While the feathers were definitely the centrepiece of her look, her hair and makeup set the stage for the performance. Her hair was pulled tightly back as a foundation for a cheeky black feather headpiece, and her naturally dark brows were lightened to the exact white-blonde color of her hair. (She's been rocking bleached brows for a while, but I'd bet these were a freshly bleached set.)

Dramatic black false lashes and a classic red lipstick added a little drama, because if you're going dance with burlesque feather fans and perform a cabaret number, you gotta have red lipstick. It's just the rule!

The joy of the look was that it felt very organic to Gaga, whose Jazz & Piano show pays homage to the sounds of the past with her signature spin, but it felt très French too.

“I am also humbled to be asked by the Olympics organising committee to sing such a special French song – a song to honour the French people and their tremendous history of art, music, and theatre,” Gaga wrote on Instagram alongside some gorgeous posed pictures of her performance look.

“This song was sung by Zizi Jeanmaire, born in Paris a French ballerina, she famously sang ‘Mon Truc en Plumes’ in 1961. The title means ‘My Thing with Feathers.’"

Since this is Gaga we're talking about, you know she rehearsed and researched to the max before the performance. "Although I am not a French artist, I have always felt a very special connection with French people and singing French music – I wanted nothing more than to create a performance that would warm the heart of France, celebrate French art and music, and on such a momentous occasion remind everyone of one of the most magical cities on earth—Paris.”

According to the musician, she rented pom poms from Le Lido cabaret and Dior did the costumes; she also “rehearsed tirelessly to study a joyful French dance.” And joy was absolutely what we felt seeing it come to life!
