And just like that, it's all over. The Traitors season 4 has come to an end – and what an epic final it was. After weeks of scheming, plotting, murdering, banishing and breakfasting, two winners have emerged.

But first, a little journey down memory lane, because this season has been one for the ages. From the smiling Welsh chaos demon that was Fiona (complimentary) to the hard-as-nails Traitor hunter that was barrister Harriet, it's been a wild ride. The phrase “cat amongst the pigeons” will always have a new meaning. And yes, my wardrobe now has a few more Claudia Winkleman-inspired cashmere knits.

But enough reminiscing. Let's get down to business. Who won The Traitors? And what happened in the final episode?

Who won The Traitors?

Rachel (Traitor)

Rachel was one of the best Traitors the game has ever seen. Cool as a cucumber, she never once let the pressure get to her. First, she took on Fiona like a pro, then, she took on barrister Harriet. Somehow, whenever the suspicion was on her, she managed to get the Faithful on side. It all came down to chance in the penultimate episode. After Faraaz began to connect the dots and her fellow conspirator Stephen jumped on the band wagon, Rachel found herself in a tie with James for banishment. The pair were faced with the infamous chests of chance and, by the skin of her teeth, she survived.

Always fashionable, always bright as a tomato, Stephen didn't initially seem to have what it took in the turret. However, after he began to attract some attention after a trip to a cage in the forest, he and Rachel made a pact to have each other's backs and he managed to convince most of the Faithful that he was one of them. So, somehow, Stephen made it to the final. Miraculously, he and Rachel stuck to their pact to back each other all the way to the end. Although he could have thrown Rachel under the bus, he kept his word and together, they voted off Jade, Faraaz and Jack one by one. As Vivaldi's Four Seasons played, the morally righteous treacherous pair celebrated and we all wiped away a tear.

Traitors runners-up

James (Faithful)

James was an unlikely candidate for the final. From the very beginning, he was very vocal about his suspicions. And even though most of them were wrong, he managed to keep most of the other Faithful on side. Apart from Roxy, of course. After James was given the ceremonial dagger, which gave him two votes, he became convinced that Matthew had done the deed as a sort of double bluff. And so, Matty was voted out. When he revealed himself to be a Faithful, the attention naturally turned to James. He didn't help himself when he barely managed to finish the second last mission. (There was something about projectile vomit I don't care to revisit). James and Rachel were tied for banishment in a dramatic cliffhanger. James picked the chest with no shield and was banished.

Poor Jade. Despite her wardrobe filled with covetable knits, Jade had a hard time convincing her fellow Faithfuls that she was one of them. From the very beginning, the PhD student was under attack from former cop Amanda who was convinced that her nervousness was a sign of guilt. Throughout the show, Jade continued to ward off suspicion and made it through each and every banishment until the very last one.

Faraaz (Faithful)

Faraaz played something of a background role throughout the majority of the show until the very final episodes. After Traitor Rachel managed to slide effortlessly through the game for weeks on end, Faraaz was the one who quietly put the pieces together and called her out. However, after she survived, he changed his mind again and switched his attention to Stephen – which proved to be his downfall.

Jack (Faithful)

Jack was another Faithful who stayed very much under the radar until the final moments of the game. Jack won the final shield saving him from the last murder. When he made it to the final, you may have secretly wondered, ‘Who actually is that?’ but by the end of the last episode, he had more than made his mark. He was the last Faithful standing before Rachel and Stephen took home the prize.

What happened in the final?

The gripping Traitors final was a real rollercoaster. It began picking up with the cliffhanger from the night before. Rachel and James discovered their fate as they both opened the chests of chance. Rachel opened the chest with the shield and was saved for one more night – and for the final.

The final episode saw the five remaining players taking on an epic mission involving speed boats and running down a steep dam before hopping into a helicopter. After all of that bonding and money-gathering, things took a more serious turn in the final banishment. Rachel implored Stephen to stick with her and vote for Jade. With Faraaz's vote also going Jade's way, she was banished. The gripping end game saw Rachel once more relying on Stephen to stick with her – and against all odds, he did. The voted out Faraaz followed by Jack and shared the prize pot.

How much money did Rachel and Stephen win?

At the end of it all, Rachel and Stephen, two traitors took home the final prize. And the prize pot was a big one: £95,750, which the pair split, taking home £47,875 each.
