And now, Han has given us the update we've been waiting for: apparently, the script is done. But, sadly, we won't be getting a surprise Christmas release as some fans had hoped.

How was The Summer I Turned Pretty movie announced?
On September 17, the same day The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 finale aired, it was confirmed that the series is not over and will continue with a feature film.
The Summer I Turned Pretty: The Movie was announced by Jenny Han herself at the special series finale celebration in Paris, France on Wednesday. “There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due," Han said, according to Variety. “I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”
Per the outlet, Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video have greenlit the movie, which will serve as the true final conclusion of the YA phenomenon; Han, the author of the original trilogy the hit series is based on and the show's creator, has penned the script.

What will The Summer I Turned Pretty movie be about?
Han has confirmed that the script is done! “I just wrote it," she said during The Wrap's 2025 Power Women Summit.
However, currently, we have no other plot details besides Han's tease of the one “big milestone left in Belly's journey." However, based on the image shared by The Summer I Turned Pretty and Prime Video's official social media accounts, it is confirmed that Lola Tung and Christopher Briney will return to reprise their roles as Belly Conklin and Conrad Fisher, respectively.
The Summer I Turned Pretty ended its third and final chapter with a bang — the eleventh and final episode of the season, titled “At Last,” clocked in at an hour and twenty minutes runtime. Even with that extended runtime, fans were left desperately wanting more of the Cousins Beach crew and Belly's story. Now, Christmas in Paris has come early!
When is The Summer I Turned Pretty coming out?
After the final credits of season 3 saw Belly and Conrad posing in a very cute Christmas photoshoot, some fans guessed that Han might be prepping for a sneaky Christmas flick. However, Han has now confirmed that this sadly won't be happening.
“We have not filmed anything yet,” she said in her most recent update.
“I know that everyone was hoping that it was coming out this Christmas," she went on, “but unfortunately, not happening, not possible.”
Since the project hasn't even started filming yet, we're guessing it will be at least another year before get to reunite with the Conklins and the Fishers.
