We're all just so busy these days, wouldn't you agree? We're too busy to meet friends, to date, to call our mum, and we're definitely too busy to cook. The list is endless, really… But do you know what we're not too busy for? Taking selfies, apparently.

The research shows that the average British woman will spend a whole month of her life - or 753 hours - taking, deleting, retaking, applying filters and retouching the perfect selfies.

The tricks to getting the perfect snap includes…

  • Choosing soft or moody lighting (51%)

  • Shooting from a downward angle (47%)

  • Adopting a 'slimming' body pose (46%)

  • Applying smartphone filters (37%)

  • 'Smizing' or smiling with our eyes, as advocated by supermodel Tyra Banks (29%)

A quarter of women (25%) confessed that they would never upload a photo of themselves without resorting to at least one of the above quick fix tricks first.

To be fair, I personally don't upload a picture until I've tested out every single Instagram filter - even the unflattering Kelvin option.

Almost two thirds (61%) of the 1,400 women, aged 18-30, questioned said that they felt the increasing popularity of dating sites and apps has also intensified the pressure to look good online. Who wants to be swiped to the left, let's face it?

The study was conducted to promote The Body Shop's All-in-One Instablur (RRP: £14) which blurs skin imperfections.
