We all saw that ending of The Abandons season 1, right? And, naturally, we are all now desperate to know: is The Abandons season 2 happening? And even more importantly, when do we get our hands on it?
A Netflix western drama about two badass feuding matriarchs? Say less, we were hooked from the word go. Starring icons Lena Heady of Game of Thrones and Gillian Anderson of The X Files and Sex Education, the show follows two families locked in a bitter rivalry. After Anderson's Constance discovers that Heady's Fiona and her family caused the death of her son, things came to a head with Fiona's family burning down Constance's giant estate. Utter chaos! We need more!
Here's everything we know so far about The Abandons season 2.
Christmas Eve theft, exes gone awry, and a woman dressed as Santa. All this and more are part of the streamer’s holiday offerings this year.

Is The Abandons season 2 confirmed?
Unfortunately, Netflix has yet to announce its plans regarding The Abandons season 2. But there's no need to panic (or saddle up your horse and storm the Netflix offices) just yet. The streamer has a history of taking its time when it comes to renewals. Chances are, they are waiting to see just how popular The Abandons season 1 proves to be. So, your best bet is to tell all of your friends to spend their Christmas holidays Netflix and chilling with The Abandons.
What will change in The Abandons season 2?
If the show is renewed for a second season, there will, inevitably, be a few changes to the show's tone and direction. The show's original executive producer, Kurt Sutter, left the series three weeks before season 1 finished filming in Canada's Calgary. According to Deadline, his departure was due to “creative differences over the direction of the big-scale production as it is wrapping filming and headed into post."
When might The Abandons season 2 come out?
It's hard to predict when a second season of The Abandons would land on Netflix – the show will need to be renewed, scripts will need to be written and a new showrunner found. Plus, they'll have to, you know, actually film the thing!
The show was originally commissioned by Netflix back in October 2022. Following delays from the WAG strikes, it took almost two years before filming commenced. It was another year before the show made it to Netflix in December 2025. Based on this timeline, it will probably be another year or two before The Abandons season 2 would be ready for our screens.
Who might star in The Abandons season 2?
Hopefully, we'd see a lot of the original cast returning to reprise their roles. Unless, of course, there were a few deaths in that epic fire. Spoilers, but our two female anti-heroines were both inside the building when the fire broke out.

What could happen in The Abandons season 2?
While we don't know the details yet, season 2 of The Abandons would likely pick up where we left off, resolving that cliffhanger.
In season 1, we met the Van Nesses, headed by Constance, a wealthy mining family, and the Nolan tribe, headed by Fiona, an Irish immigrant with a troop of adopted orphans and outcasts. The two very different matriarchs began butting heads over a land dispute, but things turned really sour when Constance's son, Willem, rapes Dahlia, one of Fiona's adopted children. Dahlia and Fiona get their revenge by killing Willem and – well – Constance isn't too pleased.
Meanwhile, the families are becoming more intertwined through various relationships between the kids. Eventually, true chaos breaks out when Fiona's family sets fire to the Van Ness estate while Constance is inside. Things end with Fiona entering the house to finish the job herself. In the final moments, we see just one woman appear. Talk about the cliffhanger.
Season 2 would, hopefully, begin by clearing up the question of who survived the fire – and what happened when Fiona went in to confront Constance. And, chances are, the two families will be more at war than ever.
