We’ve found the new TV show that’s about to take over our laptops, social media, and minds.
Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen is Netflix’s newest atmospheric horror series set to follow in the footsteps of previous viral hits like Baby Reindeer and Beef. In fact, it’s directed by Weronika Tofilska, who also helmed Baby Reindeer.
Creator and showrunner Haley Z. Boston takes viewers down the aisle of a spine-tingling — and ultimately doomed — wedding. It’s not a show of jump scares; as Boston puts it, the tone is “unsettling, getting-under-your-skin dread,” mixed with character-driven storytelling. “I love to explore characters. I think sometimes that’s lacking in the horror genre,” she says. “My natural approach is from a place of character and dialogue and humour, and then infusing that with unsettling horror … I’m like, ‘I want to be unsettled. I want to be freaked out.’"
The series is eerie, using silence and laughter to chilling effect, making it impossible to look away. Prepare yourself, as once you start, binge-watching is almost inevitable.
And in case you didn’t catch it from the title: something very bad is going to happen in this show. Spoiler?
Here’s everything you need to know about Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen.
What is Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen about?
Here's the official description from Netflix: “If Carrie is horror’s version of a girl becoming a woman, and Rosemary’s Baby is the horrific version of a woman becoming a mother, Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen is horror’s take on a woman becoming a wife.”
“Rachel (Camila Morrone) is getting married in five days. Together with her fiancé, Nicky (Adam DiMarco), she embarks on a road trip to his family's vacation home, secluded in a snowy forest, for the intimate wedding ceremony of their dreams. Which really would be so lovely, except... prone to superstition and paranoia, Rachel can't shake the relentless feeling that something bad is going to happen. Her foreboding doubts, coupled with a series of eerie coincidences and dreadful surprises, force her to ask the question: What makes two people soulmates? And worse — what could be scarier than lifelong commitment to the wrong person?”
Perfect timing for wedding season — just imagine thinking about it at a friend’s big day while you’re surrounded by taffeta.
