Previously, you could only choose certain items of clothing for men and certain items for women but now you can dress both genders in any garments you'd like and you can give them any hair style.

This is the first time in the EA Games 16-year history that 700 items will be available to either gender.

In the statement released by the studio, the creators said they'd allowed the new function to "make sure players can create characters they can identify with or relate to through powerful tools that give them influence over a Sims' gender, age, ethnicity, body type and more".

The gender of a character can be changed at any time and any character can have sex with another regardless of gender. Producers and creators of the Sims have said they've been working on the new updates for over a year and have been working alongside the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender advocacy group Glaad on the update.
