Shailene Woodley and Jack Whitehall are two names we never thought we would hear in a sentence together, let alone see them starring in a movie together. But you know what? We're totally here for it.
The acclaimed American actress and the British comedian will soon appear in the hilarious new comedy film Robots, which will focus on their characters living in a futuristic world where their clones do everything that humans cannot be bothered to do.
Sharing news of the new flick on Instagram, 34-year-old Jack said it was "certainly not your conventional rom-com", while Big Little Lies actress Shailene admitted she was "so excited" for everyone to watch Robots.
And now, with the trailer for the movie finally being released, excitement is undoubtedly at fever-pitch. So if you want to know more about Robots, keep reading!
What is the plot of Robots?
The movie's official synopsis reads: "Set in a near future America and follows a womaniser and a gold digger who trick people into relationships with illegal robot doubles of themselves."
Basically, in the movie, Shailene takes on the role of "gold digger" Elaine, who is desperate not to have a "real job" and relies on her double to do her everyday tasks. She also decides to send her robot on a date with "womaniser" Charles (Jack), who also sends his robot to the date. The robots hit it off romantically and decide to run off together. When Elaine and Charles find out, they do everything in their power to stop them.
The movie is based on the 1978 novel by Robert Sheckley, entitled, The Robot Who Looked Like Me.
Speaking to Deadline in 2021, writer and director Anthony Hines said of then project: "At a time when comedies are needed more than ever, I couldn't be more delighted than to have Shailene and Jack team up to play the leads in this movie."
