Italian fashion house Roberto Cavalli has appointed Paul Surridge as its new creative director.
Surridge, a graduate of Central Saint Martins, will be replacing Peter Dundas who left the brand in October 2016. But what will the appointment mean for the label?
Roberto Cavalli is synomous with stand out prints and full on Italian glamour. Over the past few seasons, fashion has been embracing an attitude of more is more, a celebration of maximalism. Yet this is nothing new to a Cavalli woman: sequins, animal prints and leather are all part of her wardrobe.
So with the appointment of a brand new Creative Director Paul Sturridge - who comes not only from a predominantly menswear background but who has also spent much of his career working for iconic minimal brands such as Calvin Klein and Jil Sander - we can only question, is this a new page in the brand's book?
Will simplicity take over from extravagance? Is this the dawn of a more everyday wearable Cavalli? Roll on September... we can’t wait to find out!
