Refy's Brow Sculpt became an instant holy grail when founder and influencer, Jess Hunt, first launched her brand. Now, the new Refy Lash Sculpt, taps into that same DNA with a formula and wand that's laser-focused on beautifully sculpted lashes.
It was crowd-sourced – “I read every single DM and comment. I don't think any other product has been requested as highly as this one," Jess reveals – and two years in the making. The resulting product is set to divide opinion because it re-imagines the mascara wand with an updated concept that's different from your usual.
The wand switches out a trad domed-bristle brush for a curved comb that's been designed to fit every eye shape, while the bristles are strategically placed to catch, separate, lift and lengthen each and every lash. You're either going to hate it or love it. As for the formula, heroes from Brow Sculpt have made a repeat appearance, including carnauba and candelilla wax, to provide hold, along with some nourishing ingredients to condition lashes.
The mascara is available from the brand's website from the 21st of February and from Selfridges the day after, but we were able to get our hands on it early. So, here's what five GLAMOUR staffers thought when they tried out the new Refy Lash Sculpt…

The Refy Lash Sculpt instantly caught my attention. Its uniquely shaped brush seems like a clever solution to avoid a smudgy accident during application. I really like the product's natural finish, perfect for those effortless "no makeup" makeup days. Applying the mascara was a satisfying experience; the brush hugged my lashes snugly and effortlessly followed the shape of my eyes. However, I couldn't help but wish for a thinner application. Despite the precision of the brush, the product felt slightly clumpier than anticipated, especially given the brush's size. Overall, I love the shape of the brush and think it will be great for natural makeup days.

We’re big Refy fans at GLAMOUR so there was much anticipation for the new mascara. I pulled it out to trial with friends as we got ready for a night out and the angled shape of the wand drew gasps. The lash defining result also drew gasps. I started on my right eye with my right hand (my dominant side) and it was easy to push the wand right into the base of the lashes and pull it through the entire lash. It gave great definition, volume and curl. So far so good, but the issues started when I came to my left eye. With the curve of the brush going in the opposite direction, did I hold the wand with my left hand and use the same technique or angle it over with my right hand? I tried the first and settled for the latter, using the side and tip of the wand to comb up through the lashes. It wasn't as neat. I needed a cotton bud to clean up and it didn’t quite give the same result. However, with practice it’s getting easier, but for me it’s not an on the go mascara, it requires a steady hand and some time to perfect. I do love the overall wide-eyes result, just not so much my application process.

I've been a fan of Refy ever since I got to try their lip blush and found my new everyday go-to shade (Wine, fyi), so I had high hopes for this mascara before I even tried it. On pulling out the wand I worried I'd somehow managed to jam it out of shape, though quickly realised that its curved brush is simply to allow for easier application. While I have to admit that, initially this felt a little awkward, once I got the hang of using the mascara it made a lot of sense and applied like a breeze – thickening and adding impressive length to my lashes instantly.
I tend to layer my usual mascara, since the formula is thin enough that reapplying doesn't leave it looking clumpy, when I did so with the Refy mascara, I found my lashes came out thicker than I'd usually opt for. That said, the final effect gave super long doll-like lashes in the best possible way (even though I think I'd avoid layering so liberally next time for a more understated effect).

I really wanted to love this mascara - the applicator is so innovative and like nothing I’ve ever seen before - but in practice, I struggled to get along with it. The wand is shaped to fit along your lash line, but I actually found it tricky to get right to the root of my lashes without poking myself in the eye. I also didn’t find the product to give me very much lift and curl in comparison to other favorite formulas. The lash separation it helped me achieve was something, and the formula is super pigmented - but I’m not sure id rush out to buy it again.

I’ve been wanting to try Jess Hunt and Jenna Meek’s cult beauty brand Refy for a while and so was delighted to get my hands on their new lash sculpt mascara in black, especially with my tired eyes after a couple of margaritas last night. Straight off the bat, I love the clean, minimalist aesthetic. I’m personally not a big fan of a full bristle brush so for me, the thin, curved, tapered wand on this product is ideal. The name delivers. It sculpts and lengthens, but it’s enhancing not overpowering. Each lash gets individual attention, there’s no clumping here. If I had to find a fault, it’s a little fiddly with the wand angle going back into the bottle but it’s a small price to pay for what is a stellar, everyday elevation product for your makeup bag.
