A study has discovered that more than half of couples ending long-term relationships have regrets about their break-up. Conducted to mark the release of The Love Punch, a tale of rekindled romance starring Pierce Brosnan and Emma Thompson, a staggering 54% of those surveyed had experienced second thoughts.

Of those surveyed, simply realising they still loved their ex-partner was the main reason for having second thoughts, along with loneliness and discovering the "grass wasn't greener". Perhaps that's something Justin Bieber can relate to in his on-going pursuit to win back on-off girlfriend Selena Gomez.

22% found it difficult to move on because they still loved their ex, while 19% struggled to let go when their ex-partner met someone new.

Yet the study also revealed some promising statistics for those experiencing relationship regret.

Out of the 2000 surveyed, 4 in 10 couples decided to give their relationship another try. After all, there's nothing like a break-up to give you a little perspective, right? Just look at Megan Fox and Brian Austin-Green, and Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake and you get the picture. In fact, 95% of those who got back together believed that the time apart helped save their relationship, suggesting a break-up isn't always doom and gloom.

And with romance supposedly back on the cards for ex-beaus David Gandy and Mollie King, perhaps a happily ever after is just around the corner for all of us.
