Every so often there are brands that create a buzz before anyone has even seen their collection. Sies Marjan falls into that category.
Dutch designer Sander Lak, the former head of design at Dries Van Noten, debuted his anticipated first solo collection yesterday in New York to the who's who of the fashion industry.
Inspired by girls he admired in the Nineties, the collection was full of interesting cuts, couture techniques, a host of prints and a rainbow of colours ranging from acid yellow to the palest lilac. Yet Lak's clothes were anything but fussy. Clearly he has mastered the ability to communicate a sense of ease in his designs.
Modelled by a stellar cast of girls from Maartje Verhoef to Peyton Knight, the show was full of looks that you wanted to break apart and add to your shopping list. We predict we will be seeing a whole lot of Sies Marjan on the street next Fashion Week.
